im not much for electronics or wiring but maybe i can change this. i have an old rear floodlight that was added to my tractor that has burned out. it has a black and red wire and is wired so it can only be on when the key is on. could i just replace this with an LED flood light? once i figure out what i need i might want to add one or a maybe even a light bar for the front. please let me know what i might need. i am also going to do this for my new polaris ranger but i dont really understand what i need to do. thank you in advance!

If your bulb has burned out, you may be able to find an LED that fits the socket.
If you buy an LED that has its own enclosure, then remove the old light and install the new one.
There are to many small things to tell here so suggest you find some youtube videos to see how to wire lights.

Disconnect the battery before you start.
Basically, red is usually positive, black is negative and should be connected to the frame with a bolt or screw. You should be able to use the old wires for that and it will work just like the old one.

Your old floodlight was probably an incandescent lamp, meaning one with a filament inside. As such it won't matter if your polarity is reversed. However, LEDs matter for polarity. Other than that LEDs can be installed as replacements and will use much less current, less heat, and usually more light.

If the led light fixture you get is made specifically for a 12V (assuming your tractor is 12V) system, yes, it will just simply replace the fixture that is there.

If you were wondering, since an LED draws much less current than an incandescent light for the same output, you are safe electrically dropping one in as a replacement, either at bulb level or the whole assembly. Within the warnings above, you're always good substituting things that draw less current. It's replacing an LED with an incandescent that could lead to trouble (though I don't know why anybody would want to).

check the wattage on the bulb
watts divided by volts = amps
so if its a 100 watt bulb divided by
12 volts = 8.33 amps
so you can use an led up to 8 amps
with no problem just make sure its
a 12 volt led
with; your volt tester turn the light on
put your black lead on ground and the
red lead in the center if you get voltage
the center is the hot or plus side
