The first thing I would do is check your downspouts from your roof gutters (if you have them) and make sure the outlets are well away from the house. If they are not, you can add some appropriately sized hose to the end to carry the water away.

Second, how is the grade around your house? As much as possible, you want to grade it so that rain falling on the roof and immediately around the house drains away from the walls. 10 or 15 feet sloping grade away from the house at a minimum.

My parents had a late 1800's farmhouse in NW Ohio (Fostoria) with a stone foundation which had similar problems. We grew up with a wet basement in all but the driest of seasons. Fixing the downspout outlets to drain further away took care of 80% of the problem.

BTW... I see by your bio you are a pilot. I learned to fly at the Wood Co Airport in Bowling Green, OH. And had my C-172 based in Fostoria for several years. Where & what do you fly?

Hey John,
Yep, I did the downspouts last fall, will have to see if it makes a difference this spring. The grade is pretty good, sloop is good till at least 25 ft from house.

I live in Bowling Green (small world /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif), flew a Navajo for many years out of the Wood co airport for a local company, currently fly Gulfsrtreams for a fortune 500 company out of Toledo Express.
Thanks Pete
