Evening all, My first post.... I have two drums/ barrels that i can use to build a counterweight for my ck35 hydro. One works out to 312# with concrete and the other works out to 540#. The rear tires were loaded w/ rim guard to somewhat over half full according to the dealer. The rear end gets a little light with wet dirt in the bucket and that tends to make things just a little squirrely going over uneven ground... even traveling very slow! I understand that 540 is more counter than 312 but I don't know if I even need quite that much?? Any thoughts?..... Thanks, arcspark

Somebody must have an opinion.... How about you other ck35 owners. What do you use?

fill both....use the lighter one and if it is too light then go to the heavier one. You are making this more complicated than it needs to be.

I have a CK25 with 750 lbs on the 3PH plus 250 lbs + of cab. Too heavy for wet lawn but not too heavy for loader work. Don't have filled tires. This tractor is already heavy for my lawn.

warren, appreciate the reply...I don't find it complicated at all. I just thought someone could answer the question from experience of owning or trying, to save me from having to do it twice. Just trying to gather some data, that's all. I have some of the larger ballast project parts built now but started to wonder if the heavier setup might be a liability going up hill with an empty bucket. Pa. ground tends to be sidlin' from time to time gettin from one place to another. You must know how it goes... Lots to do and too little time so I was lookin to save a little... Thanks for the response anyway

The KB2375 bh is supposed to weigh around 700#. This is the same as Donnelly's suggestion from the website. With the bh on, the fl can take as much as it can hold/lift. I have a back blade that weighs around 285# and sometimes I can feel the back light with a full/heavy bucket of gravel or sand but it's not squirrely. My rears aren't loaded. If you're going for full capacity on the fl, I think the 540# would be perfect. Going up hills with the bb on doesn't effect the front at all. So if it's hills you're worried about, I'd stay with the 312# and just not max out the loader. By the way, mine is a Ck30hst.

I have a CK20 and I made a weight box that is about 600 lbs. It works very well and I can still spin the tires so it must not be too heavy.

Arcspark, I have a Mahindra 3215HST, (is the same size as your CK35) I loaded my tires to just above the rim. (75%) I would get your your tires filled up to that point if it were me. All the extra weight that you can get will make the dirt work that you do that much easier. I typically work with a 66" heavy box blade on the 3PT and with that my rear has always been weighted sufficiently. I would recommend you plan on using the heaver weight on the rear.

Even 500lbs is nothing much with respect to ballast on a CK35 so I'd definitely use that one over the 300lbs job. A barrel is going to be close to the rear of the tractor and not provide any additional leverage. I used either a BH or a bush hog weighing about 500lbs that had its center of gravity about three feet behind the 3PT pins and that was barely enough sometimes on a CK20.

Thanks to all for the replys..... Ballast is all done today. Went with the big size. Total weight about 560#... Used the bottom of an old pressure tank, welded a square base on so it will sit unhooked and welded in a top link bracket to a thru pipe (3" heavy wall) so I don't have to sacrifice a drawbar. Now waiting for the sacrete to cure enough to try it out. Thanks again, arc

Me, I'd still load my tires. And use the weight. 560 lbs real close on the back is probably just barely enough, and maybe not under some circumstances.

I agree. Recall that the loader can lift over 1100lbs to full height which means that for breakout and short lifts you might well have more than 1500 or even 2000 lbs of down force in the bucket. The bucket itself is a good four feet ahead of the front axle. As I noted earlier, I had a bush hog and Rimguard loaded tires on my CK20 and I could still get the rear tires up in the air when digging at stumps or roots.

Here's my get up, just drop it off when not needed. Weighs about 900lbs

Hey Steve that is nice!

I don't have a ballast box yet and my tires are not loaded (a mistake I say that I should deal with).

I put the BH on whenever I do any serious loader work. It may be my imagination but I think the whole lift and drive is more stable with the ballast. Like the others said, I'd think nothing of 750 to 1000lbs. I use a box blade with a couple of suitcase type weights on it for light duty work so I don't think your idea of two different weights would have anything wrong with it. Doubt the light one would get used much though.
