Want a tissue to dry those tears? Seriously if it chaps your *** that bad then talk to the salesman.

The only gripe you got is no diesel.

I throw away so many hats from machinery we buy it's not even funny. Most of those free hats are crap anyway.

When we bought the Ventrac we got 4 hats, full tank of Diesel, 2 coffee mugs and a scale down version of our machine...

I bought a new GMC dually for about $45,000 at the time and he said I should drive it next door to the gas station so he could put some diesel in it. I was flabbergasted when he put in $10 diesel in it and stopped. I questioned why and he said they only fill the smaller trucks up.
Maybe John Deere only fills up the smaller tractors?

When I bought my Duramax the salesman topped it off with diesel and left me with some KY and said to have fun with the payments

He's asking how other dealers compare at delivery and not a judgment of his attitude. When I bought another brand of tractor, I also got a hat in the mail a couple of weeks later. My tractor was full of fuel but not washed before they brought it to me. Some dealers try real hard to cater to their customers. Others think they own the neighborhood and they did you a favor selling you the tractor. There are the one's in between that probably make up the majority.

I recently bought a new X500. The buying experience wasn't what I expected. I paid the list price (less the Deere discount during June) and signed the papers. While the salesman was printing the papers, I asked if they give subscriptions for their Homestead magazine. He said, no, but he thought I could go to the Deere website and sign up for it myself. I was offered no Deere Ball cap either. In a few days the tractor came on a flatbed trailer. Signed some papers again and the delivery guy left. I then noticed there was only about 1/4 tank of gas in it. I also took off the black discharge chute and found it wet between the metal attach bar and deck. I also saw rain-spots (dust spots) so assume it had sat outside in the rain prior to delivery. Is all this normal when buying a $5000. machine? I bought implements at different places in the past and they at least gave me a ball cap.

1) No ball cap
2) 1/4 tank of gas
3) No magazine subscription
4) Wet deck from being in rain

Do I have a bad dealer or is this kind of experience normal nowadays? Thanks for any input on your experiences.

Dealer should have given a bit of a discount and a cap for sure. Tell the salesman to charge it to their advertising budget. You might get one later on from Deere that says "Owner's Edition" embroidered on the rim. My owner's edition was a cheap cap that didn't fit well. Gave it to my kid.

I think I got a dealership cap or 2.
Can't remember if it had much diesel or not. Probably not. Long ago.
Signed up for my own Homestead after a while.
Couldn't care less if it had a bit of dust or raindrops on it as I started mowing within minutes after getting it. Be sure to wax yours now if you're the type that wants it to look really nice everytime you park it. The wax helps keep the dust off.

Like others have said, you still might get the cap. Last tractor I bought, I didn't get one from the dealer, but JD sent me something in the mail to redeem online for a free hat.

What would concern me more is that your dealer appears to have a problem with "attention to detail." If you are going to have this dealer do any service or repairs, you should check their work and ask a lot of questions. Granted, the mechanic in the shop probably had nothing to do with filling your tank or doing a pre-delivery cleaning, but sometimes the attitude comes from the top down and affects all aspects of a business.

There are differences in dealers, and as many on this forum have said, the dealer can be more important than the brand. The X500 is a good tractor, though.

I just bought a new Mahindra with a BH. As I understand it Momma requested a Mahindra Pillow and blanket for me so when I fall over out in the shop after cleaning it (and many toddys) I have something to sleep on.
Got plenty of "Noveske" and "LaRue Tactical" hats already. Don't care about a tractor mfg's or dealer hat. I want the thing to earn it's Alpo.
When it breaks we'll see what matters. I want my purchased gear to function. d:^) Schneeks..
