Bad purchase experience

When I bought my 2320, the ball cap came in the mail a month or so later. I didn't even know about it. Apparently the dealer signed me up and didn't mention it.

When it breaks we'll see what matters.
Amen to that. No way would I judge a dealer or brand or success/failure of a buying decision on whether I got a cap, key chain, magazine, or a bloody fridge magnet. They'll stand and fall on how well they look after me when something goes wrong, as it will from time to time with just about every tractor.

Best I think we can do as buyers is read, look around for models and dealers to steer clear of and ones that are relatively good, jump on a few tractors to try, and narrow down the best deals. After that point I think there is little else we can do about it and a bit of good/bad luck takes over, assuming we aren't abusing our tractors.

Bought my two tractors from the same dealer. No ball caps - fuel tanks were full - delivered both tractors to my house(65 miles one way) - no mag subscription, to he** with a John Deere mag, I would have wanted Playboy - no wash & polish on the tractors.

Pickup and return free for recent addition of grapple and hydraulic control. I have a Kubota hat - and as has been indicated - its kind of a POS. I get good ball caps from Duluth Trading.

I look to the dealership for good, honest repair work and competent, professional advice. If I want cr*p - I'll go to the carnival.

I don't see too much issue with the things listed either besides the low gas tank. If you had asked for a cap then they probably would have given you one and if they wouldn't have done that then you could have walked. Not sure why you would want the magazine subscription when you have TBN :)
Hopefully you wound up with a machine that will last you a long time.

I bought a new l in 1999 and didn't get a hat. When I picked up fluids and filters for the 50 hour maintenance I saw the owner and mentioned this fact and he promptly gave me a hat. I was surprised that it was blue and not orange.

Just got a New Holland fri. I picked it up but he did offer to deliver. The salesman gave us 4 hats and took a toy tractor and round baler and gave it to my Grandson. At pickup it had 3/4 tank of fuel. He spent almost 2 hours with me going over the tractor and answering questions. Before the loading he checked the fluids while I watched.
Great place at Crewe tractor in Crewe Va.

I recently bought a new X500. The buying experience wasn't what I expected. I paid the list price (less the Deere discount during June) and signed the papers. While the salesman was printing the papers, I asked if they give subscriptions for their Homestead magazine. He said, no, but he thought I could go to the Deere website and sign up for it myself. I was offered no Deere Ball cap either. In a few days the tractor came on a flatbed trailer. Signed some papers again and the delivery guy left. I then noticed there was only about 1/4 tank of gas in it. I also took off the black discharge chute and found it wet between the metal attach bar and deck. I also saw rain-spots (dust spots) so assume it had sat outside in the rain prior to delivery. Is all this normal when buying a $5000. machine? I bought implements at different places in the past and they at least gave me a ball cap.

1) No ball cap
2) 1/4 tank of gas
3) No magazine subscription
4) Wet deck from being in rain

Do I have a bad dealer or is this kind of experience normal nowadays? Thanks for any input on your experiences.
I think by some of the comments made you have come to the wrong place looking for sympthay.Maybe try get a audition on the Dr.phil show, maybe he can call your dealer and go to bat for you?On a serious note there are more tragedies in life than the ones you have posted.Lighten up and enjoy your new JDX500.

I bought a Frontier snowblower at the JD dealer and I got a hat without even asking. Same with my RAM 3500.

Does this mean people would prefer to see less of my head?

Wear a Kubota hat in next time... bet they'll have a green one for you.

When I was tractor shopping I wore a ratty JD hat to the Kubota dealer and got a nice new Kubota hat given to me. Then wore the Kubota hat over to the JD dealer and got a nice new JD hat. Ended up buying a Massey and didn't get a hat until the "owner edition" came in the mail a month or so later.

I personally don't like the green JD hat. Step-dad got an owners, and I wouldn't wear it. Now a nice real tree hat with a yellow deer symbol I would where. I'm not big on banging for a specific company, but if it's a nice hat, and it's free, I'll wear whatever. Right now I have a Del Zotto hat on; they make concrete manhooles, concrete pipe, ect. Got several contractors hats; but people get pissy when an inspector wears the hat of the company he's inspecting. Or there rival...
