Any body want to sit around a fire breathing ZINC fumes with your wine?

Enjoy a bout of Metal Fume Flu ...

See at link the danger >> https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/docs/81-123/pdfs/0675.pdf

Kinda like passing out blankets with small pox.........Darwin will be running his course through Tractor Supply!

No problem with those fire rings, as long as you stand up wind from them.

They are also selling their oblong versions of that (basically a water trough with no bottom) as a raised garden bed. The zinc will also leech into your soil which is not good for your veggies! :(

Oh come on. Even in the referenced warning you have to inhale large quantities of it...and the main fix is dilute it with ventilation....say being outside.

So if you plan to have a campfire in your sealed garage, yes you have a problem.

But the real problem here is only city folk would buy these. These, just like those in many parks, do not make for a good fire. If you have to ask why, then you need to get out of the city.

We have a show on the PBS station that highlights country cookin. One of the guest showed how to cook a turkey in a galvanized trash can. Nothing like zinc oxide flavored bird.

Are we sure a camp fire will have high enough temp to burn it off? Gee, for $40 we we might need to get one for our camp....

The zinc fever will be gone before the hangover.....

Have you noticed when a fence row burns how the fence starts rusting or a barn burn and the roofing rust the next day. Charcoal and or wood gets plenty hot enough to burn the zinc off.

That reminds me of an outdoor party we attended several years ago where the host served HoBo stew as a part of the party theme.
Of course, the concoction was brewed and served from a new galvanized garbage can and, as one would predict, it took about two hours for a steady parade of party goers to the bathroom. It wasn稚 until several weeks post party that someone figured out what what was wrong.

And to think some people pay good money for vitamin and mineral tablets that contain Zinc. :D

A statement like this can only come from someone that has never experienced zinc poisoning,,,

I had it several times, doing metal work that I was told to do in the US Navy, back in the early 1970's,,

I respect metal fumes now,,, NO zinc coated steel near a fire for me,,,

I've heard of that before; but generally they preburn it and get rid of the galvanizing.
That's what logical people would do. Only common sense. But then again, common sense is a rare commodity these days.

People have died from drinking too much water too. Should there now be a warning label on taps and bottled water containers that drinking water may be hazardous to your health? :confused3:

I like my truck rim; it doesn't burn out. Plus it was free.
For ascetics you can build a rock wall around it so that it looks like a stone fire pit.

Anyone looked at one of these fire rings in person?...I'm curious if there is a sticker on them that has "burn off" instructions...it seems unlikely that a corporate product is not fully covered by warning label legalese ??

Thats what I have at the house an old Kenworth rim. Just got a hole out in the woods with a few rocks around it.

I have two tractor trailer rims welded together that I buried for my bean hole, as well as a single one for regular bonfires.
