B7800 Hydraulics Question

I noticed while brush hogging last night that the hydraulic hoses and fittings on the loader valve (loader was not on the machine) were very hot to the touch. Is it normal for the hydraulic fluid to be that hot? The tractor engine temperature seemed to be normal according to the temp gauge.

Greetings and salutations from my corner of the eastern wilderness @ 1140 feet above mean sea level.

What you noticed is normal as the entire tractor becomes a heat absorber since it does not have an air to oil or water to oil(being engine coolant) heat exchanger.

Hydraulic oil is very efficient in removing heat.

If you are concerned changing the hydraulic oil filter will be no problem if desired-just remember to top off the hydraulic oil tank for the amount lost in the dirty filters volume.

The rule of thumb is the fluid temperature will normalize at 100 F above ambient. If your are at 75F, if will be about 175F.

While the B7800 does have a small oil cooler on the hydro, some tractors do not have any and the heat is removed via the castings, tubing and valves. You can get a good burn by touching a tube or other part.

Nothing to fix, this is normal and especially on economy and straddle mount tractors, this is common.
