B7800 3 PT hitch lowering speed knob, PTO

B7800 3 PT knob,should this be in the lock position when starting and also not in use,when I do have an attachment hooked up should the knob be in the locked position when starting? also mid and rear PTO to off position unless in use. This is my first tractor any other advice is welcomed.

The Hydraulic speed control can be left open, I rarely shut mine off except to exercise it. The PTO mid /rear should be shut off before shutting of the tractor and/or starting the tractor. Do you have a ROPS (roll bar)? If so use your seat belt. Do you have a FEL (front end loader)? If so keep it low on the hills a FEL can make you tip over easy on a slope if you raise it up. I would encourage you to read the owners manual for your tractor as well. Do a search on tractor safety a tractor is a good way to get hurt but if you understand the dangers they are safe to use and enjoyable at that.
