Re: Hydrostat VS regular gear - need your input please.

.I think I will get one with terf tires and then buy a set of rims/tires that are R4 tires. This way, when I work around my house, the terf tires won't tear up my lawn but the R4 will give me the grip I'll need when grading the road and moving dirt/clay/rock at the property.

Anyone have any input on where to get rims/tires cheaper than Kubota dealer?

I'm betting you'll get tired changing those in a hurry.

Since you mentioned your just mowing a bit of grass around the house, Look at getting a small law tractor instead of the extra tires/rims.

I have one gear and two HST. I vote for HST.

Re: Hydrostat VS regular gear - need your input please.

Yeah, I already have a small lawn tractor, but also have a push (which I need to use for the excercise anyways). The small lawn mower I have is ok, but the brakes don't work and I'm wanting to use the bota for both to same money.

The only thing I do with the rider now is just run around the lawn when I want to be lazy and not use the push.

I figure the B7510 is kind of overkill with the smaller lawn I have, but if I just run around it like I do with the rider, I figured it would just quickly cut the majority of it....

I think there are 3 different type of tires - Turf, Ag, Industrial (R4). Does anyone use the R4's on a nice lawn instead of the turf? Maybe I should just get the R4 for both the lawn and loader use instead of both sets...

My concern is that the R4 is going to tear up my lawn when both mowing and when I'm hauling rock/dirt over and across the lawn, which I have a project lined up to do... My thought is that the turf would be the best for any work on the lawn and the R4 for everything else off the lawn....

Thoughts/input?

I think having a MMM is a good plan. A rear finish mower is great if you have a fairly open area, but if you do alot of mowing around stuff, a mid mount is better. I think R4's are a pretty good comprimise tire. Unless you work in alot of mud, turfs will be O.k. I have turfs on mine, and they are pretty useless in sticky mud. I have also read R4's are pretty usless in the mud also. If I had two sets, I would try R1's

I have R4's on my L3400 and I mow some of the bigger lawn areas with it. It is not a barefoot lawn but it isn't bad. It does not tear up the lawn like my 1910 with R1's. It depends on how sensitive your lawn is too. I have a few areas that are always damp and the grass is not real good, the 748 lawn tractor with turfs can mess that up. If you have good grass and it is dry I don't think the R4's are all that much worse than turfs. You'll just have to try it and see what you think.

I also do not ride the clutch, I pretty much work the bucket instead of the clutch on a regular

Are you going to mainly load loose material lying on a hard surface? Cause that is what you will sorta be restricted to with the way you wish to use the clutch.:D

Anyone know on the 7510, 2320, 2620 - do they have separate hydraulic pumps for the driving and the pto/loader?

One thing I thought of last night is if I'm moving forward with the hydro, is it going to take power away from my loader as I dig and lift? Gear doesn't seem to do that.

/ B7510 hydrostat VS regular shift?? #28
Tom,,, Get the hydro... tell your wife you getting that feature for her...I have the 7610,, with hst and don't see any loss of power in the hydros even if they were from the same pump,,,At first I thought I wanted a gear drive,,pulling stumps,,and stuff,,,But the hydro Is Soooo nice,,,push and go..The ONLY drawback I have ever had was when plowing snow...Ya know that split break peddle,,,well,,,most people don't have 3 feet and that is what it takes to operate it,,,

Well, I can answer some questions. Yes, the MMM works just like the rear pto. It keeps going all the time in foward and reverse.I have a 60" deck and love it.Mine is the B7500 HST which is the same as the 7510 just newer.Mine is 21hp.Just turned 382hrs today and alot of those are not easy hrs either.I've bush hogged fields that where the weeds and brush was taller than my ROPS. I have pics in a photo album to prove that.I like to take pics of alot of the things I do with my tractor because I know people wouldn't believe this from such a small tractor but the pics don't lie. I had a RFM for mine but it was no good around the house. Way too many obstacles. The MMM works great and with a front loader the deck is a breeze to put on and take off. When the deck is off you simply pull up to the MMM and your front bucket is across the deck and then you lower the bucket and raise the fornt of the tractor up and roll the deck underneath and about 2 more mins and your ready to mow.
Tilling is something else I love to do. I done some of that today.I tilled up a spot about 10' wide by 175'long in about 20 min. This ground has never been worked before and it ate it up like nothing. By the way I have 17 acres and the little tractor workes it all.About 7 acres is grass and the other 10 is fields that get bush hogged once or twice a year. Two years ago it was all yard but I got tired of mowing all the time so I cut it down to about 7 acres.I will see what I can do and post some pics maybe tomorrow.I have alot of mowing to do.I done some of it today.A tractors work is never done.

Here are some pics of the mowing deck getting ready for grass cutting.I just sharpened the blades and washed everything and greased the fittings. It's now ready to put back on.Easy to move around the yard too.

Let's see if this picture will download. If it will it was a ditch I cleanned out about 3 weeks ago. It was more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

Donny - you look like you are having too much fun.. I can't wait to get mine!!

Man, this is the perfect forum for me... "fun" is defined as using a tractor to do work

Donny - I forgot to mention, is that a winch?? Where did you get it and does it work well?

/ B7510 hydrostat VS regular shift?? #37
Yep, That's a winch. It's a 2000lb. ATV winch. It's hepled me out of a few tight spots. It does work very well. I've used it to put tension on trees while they are being cut.I've pulled myself out of some deep mud and just some playing around. It was new from a Yamaha ATV and I just followed the directions on the wiring from the ATV. I put the switch under my loader lever where it would be out of the way and out of sight.

I'll see if I can get more pics of the winch and set up. I've been getting alot of PM's on this thing. I think it's a great add on for a tractor.

why the gear if it's steep? Does the hydro have a hard time going up a hill and using the loader at the same time?

The biggest problem with an HST transmission is...if you lose power (for whatever reason) you have NO transmission...

under no power, gears will get you down a steep incline under a load without having to feather the brakes (to keep from skipping down the hill)

I am new to the tractor world, having just bought my B7510 this winter when we got our house. It's primary use is lawn mower, with a 5' rear mount finish mower.

I'm still getting used to mowing around obsticals, however the more I use the HST, the more I love it. When I lived with my dad, he had a small JD lawn tractor that was gear driven. It wasn't bad, but I got used to mowing in forward because reverse was too slow to really help. However, with the B7510, the HST allows me to back up nearly as fast as going foward, which really helps finish the smaller sections of the yard when I can just back over them instead of having to turning around.

Also, I can shift between high or low (and obviously forward and reverse) without touching the clutch, so once the blades start spinning, they don't need to stop. I was told I wouldn't like the rear mower as much as a MMM, but I was buying the package off of the former homeowners so I really didn't have a choice. I figured I'd eventually want to get a MMM, but I really am happier with the rear mower than I thought I would be.

The only stupid thing I did so far was start mowing with the brake set (I wear earplugs when I mow and didn't notice the extra noise right away )
