B2920 TLB turfs and loaded ags
working in the woods and a sharp branch worked its way up and sliced my positive battery cable. It may have touched the frame - the motor shut off immediately and everything was dead. I put some electrical tape on the cable and got everything connected but it won't start. It now has power when I turn the key but It won't turn over. I checked the fuses and they are good.....my only guess is the slow blow fuse but you can't see if this is broken orr not. I will pick one up and see if it works....any other ideas? anyone had this happen?

No. But do you have a simple continuity tester? A simple Volt Ohm meter can be purchased at Home depot or other outlets, and Continuity testers are usually cheaper yet, and available at auto parts stores. Or you can make one with a lamp out of a flashlight and the flashlight batteries and a couple of alligator clips.

But I would invest the $10 to $15 bucks in a Volt Ohm meter. Useful for all sorts of things.

Could the branch have snagged one of the safety switches, or moved the lever for something like the PTO so that it's now partially engaged?

Would I use this to test the cable? one of our techs at work tested the cable and said it was fine. If not then I have no idea what you mean!

Usually don't have slowblow fuse in this application probably has ato or atm plastic blade style fuse a good test light is your friend check that light is working by going across bat terminals you can probe the top of fuse if you get light on both sides fuse is good some tractors have a fusible link in wiring usually close to starter this is in the harness and can be tapped up check power to lug on starter if light lights keep checking on down ckt good luck

There is often a master high amperage fuse or fusible link on tractors. I would use the Volt Ohm meter to test that fuse after I found it. It is usually taped up near the starter.. I don't have the schematic for you particular tractor, so I can't tell you exactly where it is.

This is no reflection on you, but I have often wondered why schools do not teach anything useful any more. Maybe they never did. If I was king of the world we would have at least 3 days of basic DC electricity and how to use a Volt Ohm meter in about the 8 th grade science class. This is just a rant, pay no attention to the old white haired guy.

the owners manual shows a slow blow fuse by the starter. I can't tell if you think the tractor doesn't have one if if you don't think that is the problem. thanks for the help!

Usually, if the slow blow fuse "blows", you'll see the rubber around it "bubble up",
if your stuck (and this fuse is blown) you can cut it out and replace it with the same gauge of wire,
until you get yourself another fuseable link.
Sounds like it may have blown under these conditions.

I had a fuseable link go on a car years back and bypassed it with a wire and it did work............

I believe it proably has a fuseable link which looks like a standard wire but will melt at a high amperage sometimes still covered by insulation. what I c all sloblow fuses are usually found in electronic applications and usually looks like regular fuse. I would definitely look for fuse link burned in two. to replace this you can get the correct amp link from part supply you can't solder these in place they get hot and melt have to use a crimp connector good luck

When I bought my B2620 in 2012, the dealer gave me a spare "Master Fuse". It's kinda unique looking to me as I hold it in my hand. It says that it is a 30 A. Where it goes I never investigated. But it seems like the dealer said it's mounted around the battery somewhere. Right now my rig is covered with a wet tarp out back, or I'd go look.
Cheers,
Mike

just to 100% confirm my electrical system ignorance....Is this slow blow fuse blown? I would expect the metal part to be blown but maybe it would be the glass tubes below? I can't really see in there and I don't want to force it in case it is not broken. if so do I need to replace the entire thing or just the element inside. I need to get my electrical game up to speed but I am hoping to get this going so i can use it for the weekend!

also to jump the fuse do i just use a jumper cable from the positive terminal to the starter? I don't want to srew something up because I am in a hurry

The best way to determine if a fuse is blown is to put your ohmmeter on the Rx1 scale, and see if the fuse is shorted or not. If the fuse is shorted it is good. If the fuse is open it is bad.

A fuse is nothing more than a piece of wire. It is a piece of wire that is calibrated to heat up and rupture and open up and not conduct electricity at a given current load.. Any wire conducts electricity, but depending on the size of the wire can take quite a lot of electricity before it gets hot enough to melt and rupture and open up so that it does not conduct electricity any more. If you wan to to watch a wire act as a fuse, remove your positive battery connection, and connect a piece of 24 gauge wire from the battery post back to the terminal you just removed from the post. Then turn the key to start and watch the wire disappear in a puff of smoke. Wow. instant fuse:)

Fuse looks good.
A fuseable link is not a fuse of that type.
It's built in a wire, or sometimes the wire itself, over amperage will "blow' this safety "fuseable "wire' link.

Yeah, donn. That's the "Master Fuse" 30 amp that I have on my B2620. Your's looks good to me, but if you had to replace it you get a whole new one.....probably at Kubota since it looks unique to me. Where your problem is is still a guess to me. So happy " Labor Day".

Okay ....thinking about your no start problem........from reading in the past , a lot of no start problems are related to the safety switches or the position of the PTO lever as stated by beeze fun. Well,.....I'm off to church now, so maybe a prayer will help most of all.
Cheers,
Mike

the picture of fuse looks good but need to check continuity to verify those fuses don't have a way of probing with test light but they look just like ones that Ford trucks are using they have a mismatch of fuses should be able to get these from parts house different colors indicate amperage I wish I could remember what they are called.

My slow burn (some call it main) fuse was fine. I did a lot of investigating and ended up getting a new battery which solved the problem. I don't now how cutting the positive cable messed up the battery but that solved the problem. Thanks for the help everyone! I did buy a volt meter and a continuity tester and I need to get up to speed on that stuff before it bites me
