Kubota B2910
Wanted to say thank you too all. I have read hundreds of posts over the passed couple of weeks, and have decided on the B2910. FEL, 60"MMM and the Woods hoe. I believe I have found a dealer that I am comfortable with. His price was $24,000, which I thought was fair. The quote he showed me was with the 6.5' hoe. When I asked the price increase if I went to the 7.5' he thought for a moment and said there would be no increase, he'd upgrade at that price. I believe I'll be there at opening time tomorrow with a down payment. Just wanted to be sure.
Once again, thank you to everyone who has shared their knowledge.

Sounds like a good price to me as well.

Backhoes: You left the impression (but didn't specifically say) that you're going for the Woods 7500 over the Woods 6500; were there any other considerations other than "bigger is better"? My local dealer seems to want to steer me towards the Woods 6500 over the Woods 7500 for my B2910. Not sure of all the reasons why. One possible reason is that he knows that I have 4 co-workers that have Kubota B7500s which could utilize the Woods 6500 if I wanted to split ownership of the backhoe.

Good Luck with your new tool (toy...)!

Allan,

I am sure the Woods is a fine unit, but when I got my B2910 I never considered an aftermarket hoe, because I wanted the tractor to be all Kubota in case something wrong happened. I have seen too many instances of finger pointing when I was working...

Anyway, get the biggest hoe you can. Extra reach is valuable and something you will want more of whatever you get. Don't short change yourself. Get the longest reach. You will be happy that you did later, when you have more experience with the hoe.

I would at least ask what the kubota hoe would cost before making a decision.

Contrary to popular belief, the Kubota hoe does employ a subframe...of sorts...just some long brackets on each side that replace shorter standard ones.

And I think the Woods subframe gets in the way of a MMM if you ever intend to use a MMM. You might ask the dealer about this if it relates to your situation.

The B2910 costs a little more but I think I would still buy one, even though the B7800 is out now.

Just a couple thoughts... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

As I understand it, without doing additional modifications to the Woods subframe (cutting it off so that it doesn't tie into the loader frame and just attaching it to the rear portion of the tractor) the subframe for a Woods 7500 'hoe with interfere with the not only the midmount mower but the subframe and linkages that it attaches to. If you want the Woods hoe, and want a modified subframe so you can use it without removing your MMM try contacting John @ Industrial Equipment of Northern Ohio - they might be able to fab a Woods subframe for you:

Industrial Equipment of Northern Ohio

In other words to use the Woods hoe with subframe, you have to remove the MMM AND it's mounting frame and linkages I believe. I was looking at going with either a used Woods 7500 or a Prairie Dog (Woods 7500 knockoff) to save a little and I was going to used a modified subframe that would have allowed me to use the hoe without removiing the subframe/linkage for my 72" MMM ...... but after some thought about the warranty aspect which Henro and others have brought up here on various threads, and considering that the Kubota hoe was compatible with the MMM, I finally decided to just go with the Kubota BL4690B backhoe. I ordered it today and it should ship next week.

Good price on your B2910 by the way.

They told me that they have always sold the woods hoes on the Kubotas. He told me that because it was self contained, and PTO driven, it operated faster, and that they preferred them. It is also a 3 pt style. He explained that unlike some other models, the 2910 frame was plenty heavy enough to handle the 3 point style, and that it would not void the warranty (he saw the look on my face when he said it). He did tell me that I would not be able to raise or lower the deck with it on, but I would be able to leave it on and lock it in the up position. I'm not sure why that is, but I will try and find out. I have a friend who does a lot of work around construction sites, and he has the same model hoe with 3PH. Has never had a problem with it, and swears by his Kubota. The dealer did say that they replace the top mounting bracket for the 3PH with a heavier one that bolts in several places on the rear gear case, instead of the one that is standard. I will double check the warranty facts before I sign. I certainly don't need any inconvenience. I can make them put it in writing. If I have any aprehension, I will hold off on delivery until I get back at the end of the week. I'll look for your suggestions in the a.m.

Welcome to TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Your deal looks good.

The dealer has all the right answers for the concerns about a 3PH Backhoe.

I'm sure there is a reason for you going with the 60" MMM.

But I'll still express my knowledge on the 72" MMM.

It sticks out farther on each side of tractor.
It takes less than 5 minutes to install or remove from tractor.
It has a caster wheels on each corner that allows mower to be removed and moved around easier when off tractor.
It will get a larger lawn done in less time.
When compared to my JD 60" mower the cut is better.

I have had my B2910 for over 4 years. It has been a great tractor.

I would question a few things that they told you.

1 - On that tractor you SHOULD NOT be using a PTO pump. The woods pump puts out 6 gals per minute, the tractor puts out 6.4. Your paying about $600 for less flow and a slower backhoe. The alternitive is a power beyond hookup, any knowledgeable dealer should be using it, it costs about $150 in parts, there is no kit to do it.

2 - Differences between the kubota and woods hoes is purly the mount. With the Kubota the mower linkage can remain on the tractor, the woods it must be removed. Its not difficult, but it is time consuming and you do have to lie on the ground to get at some of the linkage pins. None the less if you don't plan on mowing the woods is much more secure mount.

3 - The 7500 will do fine on that tractor, I have sold several like that. The reason for being no price difference is probably because they have one in stock that was bought before steel surcharges and price increases.

4 - If purchacing a new backhoe, I would never get a 3pt mount. The cost difference is about $500 to use a subframe, without it you run a serious risk of splitting the tractor in half. I disagree that its heavy enough for a 3pt mount. It will work, but I'd hate to see several thousand dollers of damange done if the tractor does split. A 3pt mount also giggles more than a sub frame.

You did not post where you are from. I live in south central PA and am a salesmen for Messick's between Lancaster and Harrisburg. If you have any other questions about your machine on the reputation of the dealer that your working with let me know. For the most part dealers in our area are very straight forward, given some of what you where told I have some suspecisions that it might be one of the bad apples. neilm@messicks.com

Errr .... now that you mention it, my recall of the conversation I had with my dealer is coming back a bit better and I stand corrected - the linkage does not have to be removed but the MMM does have to be pinned in the up position. Sorry about that bit of misleading info.
