I'm lookng for ramps to load my ATV on my pickup. Prices online are all over the place. Too many choices. Any suggestions? Width? Length? Set of 2 or 1 wide ramp? Arched?.......

We have a set of the fold in the middle aluminum ramps with bars spaced every 8" or so. They work fine for an ATV but not so good with a riding mower. The wheels go up the ramp ok but the mowing deck always hangs up on the lip of the trailer or truck.

I borrowed a set of the arched ramps and while you did have to set the width manualy the mower went right up and over the lip of the trailer with no issues. The arch seems to give the rear tires just enough height for the mower deck to clear.

Rob,
Be sure you read carefully about the price that's posted. Some ads list a price that seems unusually low, and quite often that price is per ramp, so double it if you want two ramps.

I had to find some ramps for my UTV (Polaris Ranger) recently in order to haul in my dump trailer and ran across this company. My concerns were strength, stowability, light weight and, of course, price. I was very pleased with their product, it was fairly priced, good quality welds and shipping was free.

They have a good selection of ramps for ATV as well as UTV units. I chose the arched design. The height of my trailer floor is about 35 inches and my ranger rides right up and in great.

Here's a link if you want to check them out.

Here is another vote for arched and at least 7 feet long. The short ones are super steep which is scary!

I started out with 2X12's and a home made lip on the end made out of angle iron. They worked ok but I, also, would hang up at the break over point when I went over into the pickup. When I bought a new mower a few years ago i also bought a new set of arched ramps and haven't looked back. I vote arched. When I load it on my flat bed truck I have to get creative due to the bed sitting higher than a normal pickup bed.

Thanks for the comments.

Now a new concern - I have an '08 Tundra. Aside from the whole recall thing I found comments online about that the Tundra tailgate was not made to support much weight. Who knows if it's true but I may take the tailgate off to load/unload the ATV. I won't be transporting it frequently.

harbor freight always seems to have a set similar to one at TSC on sale for super cheap.. they are aluminum.. 2piece.. etc.

A longer ramp takes out some of the "going over backwards and breaking your neck" excitement. We have had a number of folks hurt themselves big time on short ramps, particularly if hitting the brakes (and flipping over backwards) when coming down the ramp too quickly, or not crouching forward over the ATV or mower (the higher your center the gravity, the more likely you are to flip). I've the longer ramp from Northern Tool, the 3 segment fold-out, and it's fine. However, I've gone one further on safety. I've U-clamped a chain between the 2 tiedowns on the insides of the front of my pickup bed (like all pickups), and attach the winch of my ATV to such. I can winch my ATV on and off the pickup, with me sitting on the seat of such, with no rollover risk. Heck, I could probably have gotten away with a shorter/steeper ramp.
And, I have a 2006 Tundra - tailgate support not an issue as yet (500 lb ATV, 180 lb rider - dozens of times, and no signs of support cable or fastener wear).

I have a set of aluminum arched ramps from TSC, I think they were $125 or so. They weigh virtually nothing but feel very strong. I would need ramps 30 feet long not to feel funny putting my quad on my pick up everytime. I find backing up into the truck and unloading frontwards to be more comforting. Also, I think it is very important to tie your ramps off so they don't slide off the tailgate, the ones I bought have little straps that I tie back to my trailer hitch assembly.

back into a ditch a lil then place the ramps from the truck to the top of the slope and it will be alomst a straight drive in.. no angle..
