Anyone know. Went by a rural king the other day and noticed some decent looking tractors. I looked at the R37 with l102 loader. beefy looking.

that RK55HC - 55HP 3-Range Hydrostatic Cab Tractor for 30k sounds a lot cheaper than the yanmar yt359, too bad they don't sell them at my rural king.

I think some of the TYMs have Yanmar wngines.

Steve
Didn't know that. A lot of the lower HP John Deere tractors use Yanmar engines too. Makes you wonder if manufacturers don't want to deal with the new Tier IV emissions stuff.

Good eye. yep.. TYM made tractors with Yannie engines.

Thanks guys.

My 1955 ford 850 with superior loader is getting very long in the tooth during hay season. A power steering failure 2 weeks ago very nearly made me reach for my wallet. I got lucky and cobbled a repair.. but Imagine within a year I'll be finally looking at something other than an antique.

Rural King tractors are built by TYM to Rural King specs. They all have Yanmar engines just like John Deere compact tractors.

Of course, Yanmar is back in the game with their own SA and YT series tractors, but they cost more than RK.

i just looked at them this week - The RK24 tractor had a yanmar engine for sure.. I was also wondering who made the rest of the tractor

Personally I'd be a little hesitant on buying a 55HP machine with a 6 lug rear axle. Kinda like buying a three quarter ton truck with a 6 lug axle. It will probably be okay but I guess I like the idea of having an 8 lug axle like JD, Kubota and Yanmar on their 55HP class machines.

Are the rims on the JD, Kubota, and Yanmar hub-centric? Does the rim center hole fit over a raised ring on the axle? The TYM's have hub-centric axles and that center ring carries most of the weight of the tractor to the rim, the bolts just hold the wheel on. Also not likely you'll put enough torque to the rear wheels to shear off 6 hardended bolts even if the bolts were loose. I like overkill too and sure 8 is better than 6 but not necessary.

I've seen 100 hp Ford farm tractors running rear duals and the inside wheel didn't even have all 8 of the bolts in place.

My Yanmar YT347 has hub-centric rims and I'm pretty sure JD and Kubota do too.

I guess my point is, people often wonder why X machine is 5k more than another similarly equipped machine. You are paying more for things such as a 8 lug axle. 6 lug vs 8 lugs rims are one of the things I noticed just from watching a couple of the RK videos. Nothing wrong with a 6 lug rim as you pointed out.

There are some seriously hefty 5 and 6 lug axles out there. There is nothing wrong with the number 6 when it comes to lugs.

What you can say is 6 vs. 8 is just another potential corner cut and indicative that there might be other short cuts taken that matters a whole bunch more.

I bet NOT in this case though... TYM builds a decent tractor and that's exactly what the RK's are...

yes, but it looks like TYM targets a lower price point in the segment compared to Yanmar. There are going to be cuts here and there to hit that lower price target.

Groo,
You are making assumptions not established in fact. Sawyer is correct, TYM builds a sound tractor, the price point is simply a market tool designed to increase market share. If you have facts, bring them forward, otherwise, you comment is just noise.

I'm sure TYM builds a fine machine for RK. To flip this around. Can you explain to me how TYM can build a 55HP machine for RK and sell it for 3 - 5K less than a Deere, Kubota or Yanmar without cutting corners or using cheaper or more inferior parts ? I just went through the tractor buying process so I'm most familiar with the pricing on 45 - 60HP machines.

Does this make a Rural King tractor equal to a John deete ?

Saving thousands of dollars by drilling and tapping a few less holes .
