Anyone else have an unusually large number of hummingbirds this year?

What a great video.

For us after two banner years for birds, this year was down a lot. Last year we had thousands of bird visits to the feeders but this year only in the hundreds. Still good but nothing like the prior years. Wife faithfully refilled them every few days. We're hoping the the birds heading south will be stopping in soon.

Made the new water for HB feeders to put out tomorrow morn. I have 2 out now and will have four to clean for next time.

The wife put out a sugar water feeder.

Several times each day, it's about 4 birds a minute coming to take a swig or two. They must have air traffic control.

When they stack up too tight, it's all attack mode! Feisty little buggers.

Mine have dropped off a bit. Still reliable but in a small dip for right now.

We've had a big dip in hummers at the feeders the last week or so. We went from over a quart of syrup a day to less than a quart a week. There's a shortage of bugs in the air, so maybe they headed for the river about 3 miles away. I have recorded drops like this in previous years, and they came back after a while.

I believe the males head south first so everyone will see flucations in the numbers as birds head out. Females next with hatchings last. Plus there food sources vary much.

I am still in a hummingbird lull right now. Thinking of dropping to 1 feeder, but do not want to rush into doing that.

I’m not completely sure. This is our best year number wise though. They are consuming 32 ounces a day.

Same here and they're hitting the flowers hard too. They were late coming this year and they're still here! Pretty unusual for this time of the year but it's been a "relatively" cool summer here. Typically, they go North when it gets hot.

We had a historic deep freeze here this year--Even snow. Also, it was a wet spring and summer. I'm still mowing grass. It's usually brown and dry by this time.

Funny you should post. Last week - for the first time in 3 years - we have had many honey bees all over the feeder. Never before.

Doesn’t seem to bother the hummers.

Same here.. I feel like I still have at least 75% of the birds I had a month ago.

I’m starting to see some large flocks of migrating birds wondering when I’m putting seed down.
