To me, it's a huge difference. I've never owned a 322... but the 3hp difference between the 325 and 328 is like night and day, with regard to performance. I'll never buy another 325. Also, depending on what year 325 you compare it to... the 322 uses the older style fine-spline PTO shaft like the Groundsmaster 72. Later 325s used the coarse spline shaft like the 328s. The U-joints are the same... but the early fine-spline yokes are notably more fragile (the part that holds the U-joint to the shaft).

I installed a prescreen and lift pump off a 1993 GM 6.5 diesel on my 223D when the pump went bad. The OEM/Toro pump with the prefilter was ungodly expensive. Our 325D has the same pump with prescreen. If it goes bad. I will do the same again.

I was surprised when I checked specs that the pumps were very similar.

We have 2 Groundsmasters. A 1996 223D and a 1998 325D.

Has anybody installed wider wheels and tires on them? Our old John Deere 400 had much wider tires which cut down on tracks in the soft yard. Those were 26 x 12.00 x 12

What do oir Toros have? Would something like that fit?

Are there rims available?

Drawbacks?

Yep, I put wider wheels and tires on the 322D before I put the loader on. they came off of an old Craftsman garden tractor:

I have 23 x 8.50 x 12

The John Deere was 26 x 12 x 12

Is there a wheel tire combo that would be about the same height or shorter than stock but as wide or wider than the 26 x 12 x 12?

I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment. Trying to get at least this much down.

Next is a quick coupler for making deck installation easier.

Probably. Look at trencher tires and zero turn tires.

I have a quick coupler here haven't checked the spline count yet.

I am wondering if I can cut the groove in the splined shaft without removing it.

The quick coupler that I remember was on the lift arms, so you didn't use a wrench when swapping attachments.

I would like to know more about the quick coupler on the lift arms.

The quick coupler I am referring to is for the deck drive shaft.

We seem to take our decks off more than others for service, cleaning and undercoating.

I find it to be a pia to line up the drive shaft without help while dragging the deck back at the same time.

Any idea what it takes to change the hydrostat unit out? How much disassembley is necessary?

Do I need to tear the whole machine apart or would that just be easier and faster in the long run?

I'm not in very good condition right now. Doubt I can find anyone to hire for the job.

I hit a stump with mine last week and lost all the fluid at once. I put a new filter on and filled it back up and haven't had any issues. I'm not sure how long you ran yours with low fluid but with any luck you can put a new filter on and refill. You have nothing to lose by trying at this point. Good Luck

Well it was pretty stupid on my part, I had raised the deck to cut the weeds around the stump and got the deck caught on it, in the process of trying to get unstuck the back wheels came off the ground and when they came back down the filter landed on the stump and crushed it. thankfully it didn't break anything but the filter! If you're really worried about shrapnel I would suggest you drain all the fluid and start with fresh oil. I know you said you weren't in great health, but I think it would be worth it to drain it. I have four groundmasters, two that I mow with every week, one I use for pulling stuff around and the fourth for parts. They are great mowers and I will use them till I can't mow no more! lol

Hi there, trying to replace the PTO belt on my 322D my parts manual called for a 53-9660 belt, I found a replacement at my auto parts store, it's a Gates 6539BR installed it yesterday and it immediately burned up! tried another one from nappa same number, hoped that it would be different. still feels very tight so looking for suggestions of what I might be doing wrong before i ruin another belt. HELP please

PTO is installed!



Had to slit the old bellcrank lever to get it off.





New bellcrank going on.



PTO is back in the machine. Had to have my Brother come over to help me install it. It is definitely a two man job. Seems to be much tighter with no sloppiness, so hopefully that issue is taken care of.

Hi Asymir...I am trying to replace my PTO belt and there is not enough of a gap between the belt pully and part of engine. WHAT TO DO?? Do I have to remove the pto shaft or is there a way to move it towards the front on maxhine? I need a good 1/2"- 3/4" gap but currently have about 1/4". If I could move the engine back id be fine...lol. I'm reading here that there's a way to adjust the pully forward and back for proper alingment. My alignment seems ok.

Yours may have been adjusted for a loose belt and needs to be reset...loosened. OR.... You may have the wrong belt. I read there is a similar belt that has a difference of 1/2". If you have the smaller belt and the spring tensioner is let out all the way and it's still burning then it may be too small. One more thing...if the pulley on the PTO isn't lined up correctly with the engine pully...this will shred the belt.
Let me know what you find out.

I spoke with him, what happened was he had the belt on top of the metal belt retention finger. Very easy to do on these machines.
