Anti freeze

I was thinking the same thing. Our motorhome diesel uses what is called SCA Pre Charge. My Kioti manual just says anti freeze...no mention of the SCA type.

Depending on design specifics, diesels can be very susceptible to cavitation corrosion, or, not so much. While relatively rare, I've seen references to cavitation corrosion occurring in gas engines too.

Any reputable engine manufacturer should be issuing correct specs; see what they currently recommend (updates are often back-spec'd to older equipment - worth checking).

I like the performance of the modern diesel coolants (time/distance/nothing to add), and don't mind paying the slight premium (if any) to get that performance. My local International dealer sells the Delo coolant very inexpensively - that's not something I get to say often in Canada.....

I switched to Final Charge for everything. I got tired of partial jugs of different types that may or may not be mixed. Now I use Final Charge, which is a premium antifreeze that doesn’t require flushing when converting to it (although I did).

Never heard of this dex coil stuff. My van is a 2001 gmc and it runs just fine on Wal-Mart antifreeze. Now my wife suv, that is a different story. It has got some orange colored stuff in it and it is way more expensive than regular antifreeze. The dealer says that is what it needs, but I wonder. Somebody always says you need something that is twice as expensive as regular stuff.

I use prestone in the Jeep and mix it 50/50 which will give me freeze protection to -45F and anti-boil to 260F.
I don't know what is in the Kioti, it is OEM stuff and due to be changed this spring. I will make it good to -45F as well.

The one thing I absolutely despise about dexcool and I just learned this recently was the way he reacts with a leaking head or gasket. It doesn’t make the traditional milkshake that you’re going to see but rather turns into a sludge which is a lot harder to see and notice deal with. Maybe it keeps from polluting the oil which would hopefully keep the engine from burning up. And with all the legendary had problems in leaks that those Vortech engines are famous for I’m not Impressed by antifreeze that hides the issue if it’s a small leak like they’re so prone to. I’d really like to know chemically what makes that stuff so special .

I forgot everything I ever knew about this HOAT and OAT stuff.... but I do recall it being important. And I do recall keeping my 7.3L navistar properly checked and additive levels cared for. Its not as simple as just "anti-freeze" thats for sure.

What is everyone's opinion of which brand of anti freeze is best (for 99 Chevy pickup) and for the various tractors. Are all the brands about the same?
I decided to go with Valvoline Max Life antifreeze. The label says it can be mixed with any color antifreeze, good for all makes with over 75000 miles, and good for 5 years/150,000 miles. Could not find it locally, and had to order from Amazon.

With diesels, especially the 7.3s and 6.0's, using ELC or Ultra ELC is extremely important. For the 7.3s it's for the anti-cavitating properties. For the 6.0s it's for the lack of silicate (i.e. plugged up oil coolers).

Extra Life Coolant (ELC) is defined as any antifreeze meeting the CAT EC-1 spec.

It's the only AF I'll use on my F350 PSD, Kubota L4330, RTV and ZD326 ZTR.
