another pto question

I know what transmission driven, live and independent pto types are as I have been around tractors all my life, but what type does continuous pto fall under?

the only continuous pto that I can think of is one that comes right off the crankshaft to run a hyd pump. I don't think there is such an animal for the rear pto as it needs to stop with the engine running.

I think you might be right. i had a ford 2 n that had a hydraulic pump that was right off the engine. the only other thing i can tink of is they are using continuous in place of the term INDEPENDENT /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The manual for my old IH2444 talks of a continuous PTO, however it has a 2 stage clutch type. I suppose they mean it will still run even when stopping/starting and changing gears.

I think most two stage clutches will initially stop the drive train the puching the pedal further will disengage the pto. Yes, the PTO will run when stationary plus the pto kicks in before the drive train to allow an implement to get up to pto speed before moving if desired.

Yes that is the way they work. However I was concerned when I first got my old IH. The manual said continuous running PTO and it was!! Someone had changed the clutch and since they did not use the PTO, they had never adjusted the second stage. I figured it out and adjusted it and all is well now.
