Another MF1010 question

I have the I&T shop manual (finally) and the MF parts manual, and have been reading on doing a clutch job. The pressure plate doesn't release very well, or at all sometimes. I've adjusted and will try so again, but I've done a lot of car clutches and this does not act like an adjustment issue.

Anyway, as I was afraid of, the manual says i have to split the tractor in half. They have some suggestions for doing so, but I am wondering what kind of eqiupment you guys suggest?

seems like the heaviest part would be the front half to support and move out of the way. So what do you guys suggest? I do not own a crane and just have a rope hoist in my shop, good for 500lbs is all.

They say to split them then roll the front half away from the back.

Blocks of timber nailed and spiked together never fail. One for the front half and one for the back half. Maybe chain the timber cradle to the tractor half's.

Nah, it feels like the pressure plate. Less than a month (maybe 5hrs usage) I did a MAJOR adjustment to the clutch for this same issue and it held it at bay for a bit but it's back and worse than ever.

I'll have to give that a try. I'm thinking I MIGHT try to utilize my floor jack and figure a way to make it attach to the front half, since it would be "rollable".

Hi Handi, good to see you hanging out with us still.

I think you're probably way ahead of me on this, but I'm thinking you have an FEL as well? If you removed all implements you might have a tractor that weighs maybe 1400 lbs. If you assume maybe 900 lbs of that is the front half, and you keep the front wheels on the ground, your hoist may still be all you need, because wouldn't half the weight would be on the wheels?

The floor jack sounds like a good idea too, but I think I wouldn't depend on it for anything but moving it around. I like the wood timber idea for resting it while you have the tractor split, if you can slide it under the front end and release the pressure on the jack.

You're probably right on the wood being more stable. There are some threaded bolt holes on the rear sides of the engine block. I plan on using those later to mount the front supports for the (planned) canopy. What I have lately thought is to make a plate with a couple holes in it, that match those, and weld some legs onto the plate. Might even think of getting some casters and welding them to the legs. I am thinking a "U" shapped deal, that will have the verticle legs going up to the block, with the horizontal part joining the two legs at the bottom for lateral support. I'm sure it will have to have support front-to-back as well.

I might just take the FEL off and repaint it too. My original plan was to use the $900 I got when I sold my dual sport motorcycle, and apply that towards the tractor, BUT the funds were diverted, which is usually the case. I was hoping to redo all the major hyd lines back to steel, and something that looked somewhat like a sane person had routed them, as opposed to what it looks like now.

At this point, it will be necessary items (ie, clutch) and what ever else I can afford once it's apart. I really want to touch up the bodywork a bit and repaint it. That might not cost a whole lot. Just make it look purty!
