Maybe the color is for the same reason as a plumbers colored PVC cleaner. The color makes it easy for the factory inspectors to make sure its been lubed, or it indicates the age of the lube (darker as older)?

Nobody makes it in orange. You see, what you want in a grease color is contrast, so you can see how much is in there. Nobody with an orange tractor would want orange grease, and since most tractors are orange, it wouldn't sell well, so nobody makes it. I'm glad I could set the record straight on this important issue. Thanks for asking. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
