Alternator/battery question

   / Alternator/battery question #21
Guys let me just give you a peice of advice. You dont want to ever pull a battery cable off any type of vehicle while it is running. Car, tractor, you name it, if it has a electronic module (todays car average 10+, todays tractors have a few) you run the high risk of damaging these modules due to improper voltage and voltage spikes.

As SJD said It sounds like brushes are worn or sticking. As a mechanic that is the first thing I would check after what you have said. Generally a blown diode just lowers the charge rate and the battery will often go flat if left sitting.

Well an update, I STILL haven't pulled the alternator, it seems like every time I plan on it, something else comes up, either that or I just don't use the tractor for a bit, and forget about it.

I just fnished doing a semi emergency tree trimming on a dying oak, that lost a 8" limb and sent part of it through the roof of my 5th wheel trailer, soooo the major limbs had to come down before they fall and CRUSH the trailer.

Now where was I?
