Well anyways I called Terry in tazwell and he said he has never heard of this problem or any other fire related problems. Found that a littel wierd since segwood bought mostly new parts to rebuild his machine.

Terry must have blocked all memory of my fire after PT cut off all contact with me when my insurance company made it known they would sue. None of my new parts came from PT.

Terry sent me a new solinoid and starter switch. I am not satified with this I will inspect wiring and replace .

I have a new aftermarket solenoid and use the old switch but as a switch only. I added a separate start push button when I rebuilt the tractor.

I think getting insurance sounds like a good idea.

Today, even (and hoo-boy was I glad to find mine was a replacement cost policy). /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Good luck - I sure hope you find the definite cause of the self-start feature.

I would like to update everyone. Sorry this is so long I am not used to all this fiddling on my pt 1430 with a mind of it own. I started my pt to get it on my landscaping trailer . When It was starting I noticed my starter smoking badley so I dico'd battery leads . So i went to a auto zone and bought a 12 volt meter. The instructions are tough so i am having my father in law who is a master electricain in the union help me. We looked at pt 's wiring diagram and the only thing missing is the wiring going into the engine. Tommorrow I am going to buy new wiring from starting swicth to starter and a after market marine swicth. All my problems have come after rain or a bath so wires maybe rubbing in chase . I have bought my starter to Napa to test it and it didnt work . I called terry for a new one and he said starter should be fine after smoking ( no way) he sent me a new solieniod. I think i saw somewhere on this thread it was $900 . Maybe by monday I should be up and running I just need new starter .from pt

Just got my 1460 back from Tazwell. I sent it down there for them to "go thru" the whole unit and "make it new". They did it in under a week and I'm very impressed and pleased. They even gave me a new paint job. The price was in my opinion very reasonable and dealing with Terry was a real pleasure. Just thought those of you who don't have the time or knowledge or desire to do your own repairs should know about this option.

how did you get your machine down there. Also what was the problem? When i bought mine to have it shipped to Conneticut was about $1400. so I drove down and picked it up for about $375 in gas Pre-katrina

Called duetz for replacement starter on 1430 .My machine is only 80 hours(2 month old) Duetz says I have to buy new starter, send old starter so they can investigate it to see if it shorted internally or externally. If it shorted externally they will not credit me for new starter, I would have to have Pt reinburse me . Cost $521 If I put rebuild it viods my warrentee. I asked Terry if Pt would reinburse me and he would never answer the ? . I am waiting for starter to come in on thursday so we can get the machine running. Both duetz and Pt are pointing finger at each other on issue. Warrentee problems I wish on no one. If I were independtly wealthy I would not care. Repairing this should be easy but Last week I was turning wrenchs On my1993 f-350 to get it ready for snow plow season so I am tired of tooling around

Well yesterday I put new starter from duezt on and diconnected old ignition. Only left ignition switch to run fuel shut off and glow plug and insturment panel. Put marine push button ignition under the hood near left side of fuel tank . I would have put it on the panel but I like the idea of Its kinda difficult to steal unless u know were switch is. Started up and ran all day no smoking starter or wires, just have to send old starter to duetz to see what is up with it.

Glad to learn that you're up and running again. I am very curious to see what the "autopsy" shows on your old starter. Please keep us posted.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

Now we all know where the switch is. LOL! My 1430 would love to have a twin.

Ya know what? We are not alone. Was reading The Farm Show yesterday and one artical about a John Deere and another about a New Holland, both cought fire while sitting. The New Holland was parked in the barn and burned the whole barn down. Advice given,( now where have I heard this before? ) install a battery disconnect switch. I'm going to wire that thing up one of these days.

My mechanic friend at Motorcycle consultant in mansfield CT told me the way they had mine wired that the ground did not work properly due to the 2nd soleniod switch. instead of grounding out to ground it would ground out to 2nd solenoid switch. Thats what would get juice going to the starter. Its is like they used 2nd soleniod as a ground. The only way he new this was when he worked on caterpillers a while back they had same set up but with dico switch on pos .bat. cable. and if you did not cut it off he said it would start . But it never caught on fire. We checked all wires and never found a short . He showed me how to use a ac/dc meter pretty easy when u know how it works ( dam instructions )

Thought i would updated everyone on my tractor. I recieved my starter back from duetz and they determined it was caught on fire by overcranking. the new starter and start switch have been on for 4 months and no self starting problems. I tried to get reinbursed from power trac for the starter and they said no way. It seems their warrenty does not cover duetz parts that they brokefrom a bad start wire grounding out? I like my 1430 but warrenty sucks. Power trac sent me new starter soleniod and key switch that was it
