Here's the difference finally explained. Much of the alcohol consumed daily is beer and wine, served in restaurants and grocery stores, and without drinking to excess. A vast majority of those who have a drink or two during dinner or even lunch don't consume those drinks with the intent of getting "a buzz on", they simply enjoy how those drinks compliment the food and the social setting. However when one uses drugs the whole intent is to"get a buzz on", there lies the problem and the difference, alcohol is a beverage and 99.9% is consumed as such, pot is a drug and taken to get a high and should never be compared to adult beverages. Claiming thy are the same is an excuse to"get high" and addicted to "getting a buzz on" with ever increasing dangerous drugs.

There are approximately 30700 deaths a year in USA from adult beverage related disease. 90000 if traffic related deaths, homicides etc.are included. I expect that's all coming from the 0.1% of misused adult pops. The large majority of people who abuse alcohol are neither alcoholics nor addicted to alcohol.
Still looking for the numbers on pot deaths, it appears to be zero.

People do not go to public houses to smoke a dozen joints before driving home. I don't think you are going to find any comparison, as one is legal in 50 states and the other is not. One is widely consumed, and one is not. Apples and kiwifruit.

Both are widely consumed.

I first started smoking weed and drinking alcohol at 13, years before my brain had fully developed. At age 16 I was smoking before school, during school (parking lot), after school and on weekends. Heavy marijuana and alcohol use continued throughout my college days. My school and athletic performance suffered. I found it difficult to study, reading the same paragraph repeatedly or staring off into space. I withdrew from certain social circles, opting to hang with the stoner crowd (surprise, surprise). I barely managed to graduate from college. It's important to note that the pot at that time was far less potent than what prevails today. Fortunately, I stopped smoking and drinking heavily about 30 years ago.

I'm CERTAIN that I suffered ill effects from my previous chronic marijuana use. In particular, reduced learning, memory, and attention. I believe some of these effects persist to this day. Alcohol also whooped my behind, taking a greater toll on my body than it did my mind. Of the two drugs, IF USED CHRONICALLY as I did, marijuana is the lesser evil in my opinion.

Many people engage in moderate alcohol or marijuana use and suffer no ill effects nor do they place others in harms way. Good for them. Carry on.

Every cloud has a silver lining. Even a marijuana cloud. To wit, how many 13 year old kids know that 28 grams = 1 oz, 16 oz = 1 lb, 2.2 lbs = 1 kilo?

When I was 13 I had a T-Shirt that said 28.3 grams = 1 oz.

Something to do with knowledge of the metric system..............

I'm with you.....definitely lost a lot of ability to concentrate, although I'm not sure if that was from alcohol or marijuana use.

This country doesn't need more gun/drug control, it needs more people control. :)

Not really. Surely you don't believe that the level of marijuana consumption is anywhere close to the level of alcohol consumption in the US? This reminds me of how cigarette smokers tried to make us believe that a huge segment of the population was being discriminated against when indoor smoking bans started taking hold around the country. Turns out, about 15% of the population smokes ... which leaves 85% who do not.

I just found one article that states 13% of Americans smoked pot regularly in 2016, according to a Gallup poll.
Another 2015 article by the NIH states that over 70% of Americans drank alcohol in the last year, and 56% in the last month.

Again, not the same at all.

There's a HUGE difference between a drinker and a drunk, and there's a HUGE difference between a pot smoker and a full blown stoner. I can assure you, should those people smoke pot as much as a drunk drinks, they'll suffer in the long run.

What is the distinction? Is there a quantity threshold that must be surpassed before one can go from casual stoner to full blown stoner? What if the weekends have more utilization than the weekdays, is that taken into account. Let me be clear, we live next to Colorado where smoking the flower portion of the plant is so 2000's. They like the concentrates and edibles.

Anyhoo...from my observation, pot does absolutely nothing to these guys or their memories. I know, a small sample size, but noteworthy nonetheless.
