It seems to me that medical MJ should be controlled just like any other registered Rx. Certainly many other Rx drugs have cautions as to their use in driving or working especially on moving equipment etc. The abuse of of legal Rx happens however. Alcohol in its various forms is not a Rx as I understand it. Its abuse and consequences is and always has been obvious....and I am no Tea Totaller.

How much leeway is given for prescription of medical marijuana. When my son is in town he watches the show on Colorado medical marijuana. Most patients on the show are for stress or anxiety. One patient needed relief from stress of deciding which tie to wear that day.

I agree Mike. Medical MJ was improperly controlled and introduced to the public. Now it will be very hard to get it under control. The Federal government was way too slow in reacting. This left the States to choose. And I am certainly not in favor of more Government control but something better should have been done.

Pleasure use of MJ is another story. I favor legalization and taxation. And I am certainly not in favor of paying more taxes. But I would then put it in the same category as Alcohol and Tobacco. It's your choice.

I am only familiar with Colorado. I think I could get a prescription with one visit to the Dr. I have no stress or anxiety problems.

Are there any requirements prior to getting prescription. In my experience mj is great for stress but terrible for anxiety. Stoned people had no problems except paranoia

Hm... The 9th Circus court seems to think MJ might impair someone:

In Pennsylvania, state police told Lehigh Valley Live that using medical marijuana automatically disqualifies someone in the background check process from buying a gun.

That lines up with a 2016 ruling from the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals that said it isn稚 an infringement of someone痴 Second Amendment rights to ban them from buying a gun if they use weed.

的t is beyond dispute that illegal drug users, including marijuana users, are likely as a consequence of that use to experience altered or impaired mental states that affect their judgment and that can lead to irrational or unpredictable behavior, the court said.

So what do you pot heads think? I have never used any MJ, and I don't have any first hand experience to base a judgement on. I have seen plenty of people under its influence, but that is not the same.

I've seen a lot of drunks with guns.

My Sister-In-Law runs one of the first prescription stores in Colorado Springs. She had people walk in wanting to purchase but didn't have a script. She had a list of Doctors she handed out. Next day they would come back with a script. Now it's legal for pleasure sales. So unless you are a big time user, no script necessary. There's a Motel we stay at in Springs. Across the street is a "store". People are lined up in the parking lot when they open at 8 a.m. Most cars have out of state license plates.

Couple years ago we co-rented a house in Buena Vista for 3 days with 8 other people to do some 4 wheeling in the area. Utensils and a bowl of MJ sat on the coffee table the whole time. Personal control is required. When it's openly available like that usage goes down. No big "thrill" of doing something "illegal"....

I have taken guns from drunks, back in the day when I wore a uniform and badge. I can remember one old guy in his 60's did not much like some "kid" ( I was in my early 20's) taking his shotgun away. Of course I explained he could have it the next day when he sobered up down at the SO. He and a man in his 40's were fighting over the charms of some young "lady" in her 20's.

That would be no fun. Angry drunks are pretty bad.

Wait till Christmas day... Bunches of people will get lit up with booze, start fighting with relatives, and out come the guns... Happens all the time, but I guess that is OK. And, no... I don't toke any whacky weed...

You are a better man than I, as I have no tolerance for drunks. Potheads, I just ignore. I considered Law Enforcement before the Marine Cops but decided I would not be able to deal with drunks on a daily basis.

Yep, I was 24 when I started and lots of our "customers" didn't think I was old enough to moderate their family fights.

Must be how my Doctor feels when i ask to see the diploma.

For a fact, when medical MJ was the only "legal" one around, there were a lot of scripts written for $50. Now they don't need the prescriptions. I don't consume MJ and to be honest not much alcohol either, but im for both being legal and not clogging up courts and prisons, not to mention the subsequent fallout from being found a criminal.

No "pot head" here, and I'm not sure if you are speaking about med mj or get high mj. I know this thread is alcohol vs. marijuana, presuming each for pleasure/recreation, but those couple of sample's (medical, CBD & no THC) I got at a "conference" a couple of weeks back took my shoulder pain away with no side effects (no high). Aspirin, Alieve, etc don't touch it and I don't want to step up to the next "conventional" method witch would be some "light" opioid. No thanks!

No chemist here, but, I think one advantage that has came from the legalization of medical MJ is the open study and development of other uses rather than getting high. I'm glad to see this work progress. Even though I don't think it's done for our personal benefit. I think it's the branching out of methods to gain sales of the original product. At least this time it's for a good reason. Glad it worked for you!!!

Interesting isn't it. He probably would not have said a thing if I had looked like I do now at age 63, but back then I was far far more capable physically of taking that shotgun away from him plus my reflexes were better too if he wanted to shoot me, and I was armed with a .45 Colt Gold Cup pistol. Anyway the shotgun went to the office, the Lt, I was with decided not to take them to jail so that was that. Yes and "family fights" are some of the worse things you can get involved in. Pretty hard to tell the players without a scorecard. And they can turn deadly in an instant. And just about everyone there hates the law, even if they called you in the first place.

Yep. And that's why I think it's important to Back the Blue until it's sorted out.

I am in favour of medical MJ and have seen it advantages in medical trials alleviating pain from cancer etc.
I lost both my parents to cancer and to watch them suffer for the last few weeks was not pleasant and morphine only helped for a brief period.
Never used drugs, don't smoke but enjoy a beer after work or a fine single malt when the bank balance permits (read Mrs permits), never failed a breath test and don't plan on doing so any time soon.
I cannot prescribe drugs so my patients are passed on to generally a psychiatrist who can for the problems I am trying to treat although most of my work is assessing not treating, not sure which way medical MJ is going but has been sitting in the Governments lap for some time now but it seems the gay marriage bill was a more pressing matter for political point scoring.
