This is true but no one has ever gone to jail for that year. They use it as a bargaining tool to get info from the low life that get caught doing something far worse. You would think a mandatory law would be just that. How ever if I get caught crossing the road from one of my fields to another with out a lock on my gun they can take the gun my hunting license and fine me big bucks . And this has happened to some in this great state of Taxachusetts .

yeiks... seriously? from one field to another.

Im sure glad we have open carry here in Idaho. That eliminates those other stupid laws such as your talking about. At least i could hunt without locking the gun crossing a road.

Here in Durham NC, im still waiting. I'm now past the 90 day period. Now after a couple of days just trying to get a hold of someone I was told that they didn't get all of my medical records (from places I've never been). I called the company that sends out the records and they never received request from the sheriff's office. Now back to the run around. Its beyond stupid.

Medical records? Is that the mental competency check?

For all of you who live in America, be warned that if you travel to New York State you better leave your guns home. As it has been mentioned, you can't even by a round for a 22 in NY without a permit.

I just heard from an attorney over the weekend about how a client of his was arrested for possession of a gun. The guy was from out of state and hadn't received his NYS permit to have a handgun yet. So he though he was ok just having them locked in a hidden safe in his house. Well his dad was living with him and needed an ambulance. When the police came they asked the guy if he had any weapons in the house. The guy showed him the guns and was arrested!

The attorney was commenting how in America, most states that issue a permit encourage you to not "conceal" your handgun if you're wearing it. In New York, you have to conceal it, or you could be arrested.

Yes, they do check with the local mental health agencies, and if you mention a mental issue, they dig deeper still. However, they require you to also list your family doctor, so it could be they really do mean medical records.

Three things, 1st--Why do the pig cops come on medical calls? 2nd--Why do they feel the need to ask about guns randomly, a medical call is not a hostile environment AND 3r--Why the h*ll would you ever telling someone you had a gun?

Not exactly how it works.

It sure seems like common sense that the nation's founders intended the 2nd amendment across all states, not subject to arbitrary, capricious state-by-state restrictions that have nothing in common with each other, nor are based in regional needs.

When is the U.S. Supreme Court going to stop this nonsense?

Here in Minnesota, we have a "shall issue" state law, mandatory training, and maximum 30 day waiting period from filing of training certificate to issue of conceal carry permit. Open carry was/is legal, but rarely advocated by professional self defense instructors due to probable hysteria among ignorant public.

I only open carry in the woods for protection from wolves, bears, coyotes, etc.

Wow, there's some strict states listed here. Like someone else mentioned, New Hampshire is pretty easy. My son got his when he was 19, it only took a couple weeks and a bit of paperwork. Kinda funny because according to the state he is not old enough to buy a handgun. Seeing we live close to the MA border, we have to make sure we don't accidentally bring a firearm across the border. We'll see what the future holds seeing it seems the Mass libs are slowly migrating North to make the Live Free or Die state a suburb of the nanny state.
