Some people in the business, Hans Luginbuhl (Bubenberg), for instance, tell me that spike aerators are actually harmful, since they compact the soil rather than extracting a plug and making it more porous. He likes the PT aerator. I've rented one that tows behind the PT, so I can mow and aerate at the same time. I decided I was spoiling my lawn too much, however, so haven't done that in a while.

Think of the patterns that could be made with a set of those bad boys, though.

Or, similar to motorcycles, use 'em for lawnmower races on frozen lakes...

I'm with Hans and Charlie on this one. Stick to the plug aerators, if you want improved aeration.

I kept watching the video wondering what happens when you hit an uneven patch, a rock, or a root, or forget and veer onto-gasp-pavement. Oh, and how many passes over the lawn do you have to do?

Of course, I was also thinking "Man that would solve the PT crabbing problem..."
