Adding Hydraulic Filter on ford 641

/ Adding Hydraulic Filter on ford 641 #11
i have plenty of ford 711/722 1-arm loaders. nearry a one has a filter arangement.

I flushed the cyls by hand as you did.. ( ps, you can remove the bleeder screw from the top of the cyl and just pressureize the cl and blow crud out without cycling.. easy huh! )

I have mine run in every way you can think of, from a chained hitch and right off the top cover, from a diverter valve, from a modified top cover to allow a remote similar to a power beyond setup ( on my naa ), to standard single and dual remotes, for my non trip models.

clean the cyl and go and forget the filter unless you really just want filtered hyd oil. in that case.. use the pressure specified parts that were discussed as they WILL be under full pressure when lifting a load.

btdt, got 5-6 1arm loaders on various tractors and more waiting to be installed.

Thanks all for your reply - this cylinder is acutually a one arm loader cylinder. It has not been used for a few years. Looks good on the out side.

I have cycled it by hand several times. Letting it suck oil in from a bucket and pushing it back out by contracting it.

Getting no rust or metal, but getting a few black specks, that when you touch them they seem to desolve. They appear to be grease blobs to me. At first there were a few around the size of a finger nail clipping. Now most are less then a 1/8 inch around. Last cycle I got about four of these blobs.

I suppose the right thing to do is pull that cylinder apart and inspect and put a new packing seal kit in it. Was hoping to not have to repack, but do not want to cause a tractor problem. So was thinking a filter would be a simple work around. I did not realize a that bi-directional would be so hard to find.

I have not splite one of these cylinders before before - - - If any of you have done so - - - how hard it is going to be to unscrew the collar on that big cylinder.

Second question for soundguy. From what I see in the book on adding a FORD ADD-ON HYDRAULIC FILTER, - - I am assuming that the kit includes some piping modification that you have inside the hydraulic tank. Is that the case?
