The filtration is a little weak, its a 15 micron filter, its more for the water than a filter. I was after more of a filter and less worried about water, I think the Racor takes care of both. It would be real easy to add a valve to any install.

Yup.

IMHO the 2 micron Racor is superior. I cannot find a pore size for the Kubota filter with the valve some are using, but can for a Yanmar/Donaldson cross reference which puts it at 16 Micron.

To me, the Racor will provide superior filtration and superior water separation. Valves are easy to install if so inclined.

I think the Racor filter is a good upgrade for a BX or any tractor. The BX filter could be bigger. One thing I would like to point out is it not the filters fault that it is getting clogged. It is doing it's job. I know that when you buy diesel you are going to buy some water and dirt. If you are having frequent clogged filters you may want to rethink where you are buying your fuel, look at how clean your fuel container is, how you are transporting your fuel container, and/or how you are storing your fuel container. I also realize that clean fuel may not be available everywhere.

The BX filter is supposed to be checked every 100hrs and replaced every 500hrs.

The filter element on the L4240 is supposed to be cleaned every 100hrs and replaced every 400hrs.

I think the BX filter should be changed more frequently than what Kubota specifies.

If you are worried about the lift pump just put in a small inline filter that Kubota uses on the bx ahead of the lift pump. They are cheap and no mounting required.

The problem is the little BX filter before the lift pump plugs easily and I want to get away from that. I removed mine when I put the Racor on.

As far as my fuel goes I use a 5 gallon can. I look inside it and it looks brand new. My problems have occurred during winter. There is three things that could be a problem. Fuel gelling, water in the fuel freezing or dirt. I use an additive for gelling but that could still be a problem. The last three filters I've replaced allowed almost zero flow but when I cut them open they don't look that bad. There might be a fine silt in it but I'm not sure. I know I have zero problems with diesel in my truck and I get fuel at the same places.

That would defeat the purpose of the filter upgrade. Problem is the factory filter sucks! And clogs at the drop of a hat!

Scooby is usually OK with a bit of drift, so I thought I'd toss this in....

In terms of the filter Micron wars, consider using a fuel additive that de-emulsifies (as in coagulates) tiny water particles, as it will assist in water separation activity with any filter. This action is one reason I use Stanadyne, but I believe other products do this too (Optilube XPD ?).

If I understand the described Winter issues with the stock Kub filter, the type of additive I'm talking about may actually cause you to change the stock filter more often, but IMO that is better than having those tiny water droplets going through an injector. A Racor or any olde school cup separator with a drain cock will just have to be drained of water a bit more often, using addy's like I'm describing.

Not really, but you can also get inline screens that would take the damaging pieces out.

You said install the factory BX filter before the lift pump. That filter is precisely the problem

If your fuel is that dirty then your racor will be plugging with frequency too. 2micron filter takes out most everything. Just for interest I installed a racor on my front mount mower and left the inline in place ahead of the racor and the factory filter lasted 2 racor filters before it plugged.

That's why I went with the 10 micron Racor. Its still finer than the Kubota filter is reported to be rated at.
Also, inline electric pumps are designed to push not pull so I didn't think it was wise to add unnecessary restriction upstream.
