Does anybody know of a screw in adapter for a propane lantern that is threaded for a 16oz gas cylinder? I'd like to adapt the threads to npt so the lantern can be hard piped.

good ole Harbor Freight has an adapter for filling the little bottles from a propane tank. I am sure you could adapt that to make it work

that makes things worse because those normally use the reverse thread old propane threads on the other end.
you could machine it off, but then again, if you could do that you probably wouldnt be asking for an adapter.

They have a dozen or so different adapters/hoses etc to suit your situation not just one. One I was referring to has straight connection to 30# and larger portable propane bottles to the small lantern bottles. Several others listed for adapting to other applications.

I dont think I would want to be running 80-120# (normal pressure of a storage tank) pressured propane lines into my house to power lanterns. Buy the ones specific for low pressure (ounces rated )rather than high pressure. Or just hook the small bottle to them and refill when empty from your large storage tank assuming that they refill ok. I have not tried to refill any of them so I dont know how well that works, but if I had use for lots of them, I would certainly look into refilling them rather than continually buying those little portable lantern tanks.

We use 1 lantern to light our entire barn every night. It is very, very bright, and lights outside the doors as well. It is the brightest lantern on the market. I bought a 30in propane tree/pole that mounts on top of a 20lb tank. It works great. Depending on the lantern, you can just use an extension hose. Many years ago, I had a Spitfire propane torch that I really liked. And of course it was made to go on a one pound bottle. I went to Dallas Propane and bought the fittings and an 11' (no idea why the odd length) high pressure hose and used that rig on a 20# and later 30# propane bottle for over 25 years.

That is a very good point! I know that the 20lb tanks that I get pre filled, have a regulator attached to the tank. That may not be the case if you buy one at a big box store, or have an old tank.
