I have been and am still looking for a used pt, found one locally but it's a 1998 1430. This is probaly not a bad thing, but I was more into the new 422 the price would be comparable with attachments, close anyway. My question is The owner stated that it has a 3 pin attach system and I was wondering how hard it is to change tools with this style ,as this is one of the primary sale points I've been pushing at the boss of boss'es. Now the trick question: 98-1430 28 hp.duetz diesel 1 big bucket no teeth, phd 1 36" auger, 60"mower, 75 hrs, was a demo for a dealer, price 12,000. Machine is supposed to be like new, kept indoors. I have'nt eyeballed it yet would like to have some idea of general worth before I present my dumb self down there. The only things that I know about them are points that I've picked up on this site. Please don't get me wrong there is a lot of info on here and I think I've read every post but I still don't have a clue about resale value.Any and all help will be appreciated and Thanks in advance.

I have no experience with the 1430, but offer the following comments for what they are worth:

75 hours for a 98 seems incredibly low. If accurate, the unit is barely broken in. The comment regarding a demo for a dealer is curious as PT has no dealer network. I would suggest you find out the serial number and see if you can sleuth more info reagarding the unit's history from that. You should be ablke to better guage the wear and tear on the unit with physical inspection....if it was kept inside, there should be little wear, but check all joints, tires, lube points, etc. As to value, it is in the eye of the beholder absent much bidding competition...!2 does not seem excessive if it is as represented, but keep in mind transportation and costs for conversion to quick attach system if you choose to go that way. Good hunting!

Wasabi, I guess I need to clarify a bit, the "owner" is a dealer for mowing equiptment and used to be a dealer for power- trac, this machine is the last one that they have around hence the 1998 yr. model, might have been a rental I don't know, but he said that it had never been sold. Big green dealership don't think(?) they would try and fly any obvious fractured fairy tales

You should consider contacting eric.j.drabb@bankofamerica.com . I have seen and test driven this unit. It is a 1430 trailer package. It is not pretty to look at, (been kept out in the weather), but it runs well and comes with a lot of attachments. It has been taken over by the bank due to bankruptcy. It is definitely worth a look for $8500 and it may be newer than a 98 model. I ended up with a used 425 because I have a Kubota BX22 with a backhoe, but it was still very difficult to pass up this 1430.

TT - I would heartily agree. If waterglyn's contact has a 1430 plus trailer plus a lot of attachments for $8500 /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif, it would be well worth jumping on quickly! Keep us posted!

Mine's a 1990 1418 with the old 3-pin attach. I'd question the guy about the year again, or just get him to give you the serial#, then call Power-trac, talk to Don Boyd, and find out what year it was built. I'm thinking 1998 sounds a little too new to have the 3 pin deal rather than the current quick-attach, but I could very well be wrong.

I'd suggest that if/when you pick it up, do these things:

1) Examine it in detail. I've replaced quite a few bursted hoses on my old one. It sounds simple (and it really is), but when a hose bursts, you dump a bunch of oil out, and you have to find the burst hose (which isn't always easy), take it off, measure it, order a replacement, and wait, OR, take it off and take it to a Carquest or similar that can make hydraulic hoses, then put it back on, and hope you changed the right one. Hint: unplug the spark plugs and crank the starter when you're looking for a burst hose. That way, you don't get sprayed in the face with high-pressure oil, and you don't dump all the hydraulic oil (and thus burn up the hydrostatic drive pump). When you examine it, look for any fresh oil, run your hand down hoses to feel for sections that have a worn spot, etc.

2) Hook up every attachment that going with it, and try it out. Run this thing hard (and as long as you can) before you hand the person a check, and drive off with it. If you possibly can, get a friend who's a diesel and/or hydraulic mechanic to come with you to check it out. If it's going to break, it'll break after it's heated up and the hydraulic oil pressure is at it's high, and you want it to break before you buy it rather than after you get home with it.

3) When you call PT with the serial#, ask Don for help in what to look for in terms of it's condition. He helped me a lot with my purchase.

All that said, it's a pretty simple machine, and you can probably fix most stuff yourself. I have, with the exception of some engine work that I recently had done. $12K seems like a rather high price to me for a used one, so make sure it's in good enough shape to justify the price. And have fun while you're doing it! If I had paid that much for mine, I'd have expected to have to repair very little!

HTH,
Dave

I assure you that it is true. It was VERY difficult for me not to buy it. I just have too many irons in the fire right now and invested elsewhere. If eric does not respond then let me know.

So where is this machine located? Is the rust extensive? Robert

No, the rust is not bad. The paint is just weathered. It is on the outskirts of Cherryville North Carolina. Can't give you a town name because I don't think there is one. Cherryville is about 45 miles west of Charlotte, NC. You need to email eric at the email address that I gave above and let him give you phone numbers, names, etc. .

I believe you....just am surprised by the price, given that new, that type of package is over three times that....I too would look on it with favor, but happened, instead, on a similar package of a PT 2445 with trailer and numerous implements in pretty good shape....now, if I could just sway the boss into believing we need a fleet..../w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif
