790 front axle broken

Hello to everyone! I'm new to the forum and came across this looking for info on a ring and pinion for my 01 jd 790. JD wants $770 for just the gears:shocked::shocked: I've been calling around looking for an aftermarket set, no luck so far. I've read previous post on this site about the frontend on these tractors. I've had mine since new in 01. Rebuilt both outter gears, now the pumpkin is gone. If anyone knows of a place I can get a gear set other that jd please let me know. Thanks

Your best best is a tractor salvage yard. If you do some research, I think you'll find that 790 front axle (at least some components) was shared by the 770 and 670 (there were castings on my 790 embossed with the 670 numbers). It's going to take some grunt work on JD Parts.

Probably alittle to ruff on it. I'm just going to order the set today from jd. It's planting time and I need it now. Beside this issue I've had with it, it's been a good tractor. Done pretty much everything I've needed it to do. Live and learn as they say.
