Emax25 front axle ring and pinion replace

My front axle locked up. It ended up being the pinion was ground up and catching on the ring gear. I got it apart and cleaned all the metal shaving out of the axle. I got a new ring/pinion and bearings. I got the new ring gear installed. I tried installing the new pinion but the front pinion bearing keeps coming apart....so now I'm going to assemble the pinion,bearings and spacer along with the lock nut and try installing as one piece. I've got both paper copy and digital copy of the service manual but it's pretty vague when it comes to the front axle. Anyone ever done this repair and have some advice.
