72" Piranha Tooth Bar Install and Review!

For Piranha owners; how do they work for taking out saplings? I am considering ordering one for that purpose.

I got mine installed last week and spent about an hour taking out cedar saplings. The PTB worked great. Without the PTB, the bucket edge just slides off the saplings. With the PTB, it grabs them and allows the tractor to pull them out by the roots. I give the PTB a big thumbs up.

Has anyone devised a quick-mount for the piranha bar?

Instead of bolts, would a pin hold the bar in place?

I don't think a pin would work because the hole in the PTB mounting tab is elongated. A pin would allow the PTB to slide back and forth and wallow around. It needs to be bolted down tight.

The bolts and nuts that come with the PTB require a 15/16" wrench to install. It would take me 1 minute per side to take it off, and probably 90 seconds per side to put it back on tighten it up. So, in essence, it's already a quick-mount system.

. . . The only issue I had with install was the bolt holes were very close to the reinforced corners of the bucket. Luckily I only had to trim a small amount of weld and metal to allow for the bolt head clearance. . . .

Glad you got it installed. I installed mine last week on my BX23. Interestingly, I had no issues with clearing the reinforced area on the outside of the bucket. Perhaps that's just a difference between the BX23 and BX25.

Here's a pick of mine. You can see how much clearance I had. It wasn't even close.

Looks good! Mine is on a Grand L3830 72" bucket. A lot different shape than the BX bucket.

:2cents:I have always wanted to try a Piranha when clearing land but three things stopped me.

1. I could not seeing me drilling holes into my FEL to mount it and have to unbolt it when I wanted to put other attachments on.

2. I could not justify to myself why buying a Piranha on what my Ratchet Rake can do when clearing land but dig, but then again I have a backhoe.

3. So far up to this point my rake has done everything for my needs and maybe you have your own. I like the idea to be able to take off the rake in minutes and add another attachment or dig small with the FEL. I still have more clearing to do then take soil samples for my new deer plots made by the rake. To date I have cleared brush, driveway and some dead stumps

If they came out with a quick attachment and no bolts then I would give the Piranha a second look.

I'd like to do a side-by-side test with somebody that has a Ratchet Rake to see how much time it takes to remove the PTB vs. the RR. I've put the PTB on once and haven't taken it off. But I'm pretty sure I could have it off in 2 minutes.

And I'm not saying anything bad about the RR. I've never used one, and I'd like to have one. I can see where it would work great in certain situations. But I need to take out a bunch of saplings, and I needed a better edge on the bucket for digging. For those uses, the PTB seemed like the best choice.

I have both. You can install RR without tools... However straps are tedious. So it's a toss up on which one is faster. I can probably install either one in about 2 mins.

The Piranha can stay on the bucket pretty much all the time. Unless you are wanting to scrape and back drag perfectly smooth.... Like scooping mulch off a grass yard.

The RR cannot be used for scooping. It's whole purpose is a raking device. The forward facing teeth are for grabbing bushes, etc and raking when bucket is angled.

If I could only afford one... The Piranha would be hands down winner.

I don't think drilling the 2 holes would really bother the structural integrity of the bucket. I don't own a PTB, but I would imagine uninstalling the the 2 bolts might take 2 minutes tops. I guess it's all in what you want.

Yeah drilling two holes into bucket will have zero effect on bucket. Bolting the bar to the bucket is far superior to clamping.

Its really pretty easy to drill the holes so I'm not sure what the big deal is.

Agree.....putting holes in the bucket is not a problem. I leave my Piranha bar on most of the time......I can remove it and install it in a couple of minutes. Great addition to my tractor.......glad I bought it.
