Currently looking to purchase a mower for attachment to a 955. Actually found four within a hundred miles. Some are without attaching hardware, others stored outside in the rain and snow. I did find a 72" from a 4700 that is in very good condition, stored inside, used only several years. I am aware the 4700 attaching mounts will not be the same but if the mower pto drive are in the correct location allowing it to be lifted properly. I ran into this going from a 455 to a 4110. I have made mounts and attachments in the past. ( the fun part of adapting ) Just curious if the basic shape will allow for a transformation.
Are any 72" decks " drive over " for mounting ? Another fabrication addition idea I would consider. Sliding a 400# mower under a tractor is not my idea of an easy attachment process.

Thanks, any hints, ideas, or opinions helpful. Anxious to get the " new to me " 955 out of storage and in use.

I looked at a few pictures on line and they don't look like a drive over, but I'm not sure. My current JD is a auto connect but my previous Kubota had a 60" deck you have to slide out side ways. It wasn't fun but it wasn't to bad either if you did it on concrete. You just turned the anti scalp wheels sideways and slide it out. It took a little back and forth to get it out. On my Kubota connecting the drive shaft was often the hardest part.

I have a no longer used 72" JD mid mower with brackets etc. I'm in Mid Michigan. Where are you ? Could meet partway ? PIC00026.JPGPIC00024.JPG

Used 2 seasons. Doesn't play well when also haying (On and off and on and off, ...) I have the belt covers off in the pictures but they come with it. There are still some deck lift hinges still on the tractor, but I would remove them to be included in the sale.

I now have some experience with freight shipping via. R&L Carriers. But, I'd prefer you see it in person. Used on a JD 1070.

Thanks for the offer. I have 5 decks for sale within a hundred miles of my location, central Wi. As in your case 3 of the 5 have no correct mount ( for a 955 ) so buying them or fabricating would be the alternative. The remaining two, one is very expensive and the other stored outside. I have many choices that don't require shipping which would be expensive and require crating. I am in the knowledge state trying to figure mounts and correct fitting base.

I had an770 with 60" Belly mower. Quite the complicated set up. That mower didn't actually travel on the ground but was always suspended. The wheels are only so it doesn't scalp.

I don't especially like belly mowers. You loose your ground clearance. And the tractor has considerable compaction and can chew up turf in tight turns. I still look after that belly mower having sold it to a neighbor. Taking it on and off is a major PITA. I lift the front of the tractor up with a crane or loader, but there is virtually no way to reach in there and get your hand on the PTO to slide it off. The mower is in the way.

I've not used a belly mower on a tractor. I bought a 72" Agmate rear discharge finish mower a few years back and love it. Very easy to connect/disconnect. You just have to be aware of it trailing behind you.

I am going to have to do some maintenance to it this year. I replaced all the wheels last year. One of the wheel frames has loosened from the deck and the bolt/nut is frozen. The looseness has caused it to start rusting between the metal from rubbing so I'm gonna have to cut the bolts out, repaint, and replace the bolts.

If the John Deere 72" stamped deck is anything like the 54" I don't think you will be all that happy with cut quality.

Purchased a vary nice 72" MMM today for $300.00. It does not have the correct attaching pieces for a 955. Modifying the existing mount is in the future. Checked the bearings and belt. The angle drive is full of oil with no play from top to bottom . I would venture to say the drive belt is expensive as it is twice as heavy as the 60" deck.

I was impressed. This deck is huge and weighs a ton. Truly heavy duty built . Its a shame they have a very poor paint process ( electro - static ) I read with no primer. The belt new is probably 150 or more. Anyway the challenge is on to make it fit.

Where do you get that information?
