7.3 role call

I had 99 7.3 and I miss it, wish I had it back, got 2500 Hemi NO comparison in towing.

Here is my 01. I put a triple disc TC in it with a lower stall. (in the gravel :( ) Also switched to a IH water pump with ELC coolant. I am gearing up for round two of modifications. Building a steel line regulated return, deleting intake air heater, deleting fuel bowl/heater, deleting EBPV with non ebpv pedestal and cutting butterfly out of exhaust. I will probably throw a Donaldson filter in too. When that's over the wife directed my "phase 3" to put 5" non muffled exhaust, powerstruck chip, and wicked wheel 2 compressor wheel. Unfortunately my truck is PMR positive so until I change rods I am capped right there. I really enjoy working on these trucks and would really like to get auto enginuity for the lap top so I don't have to troubleshoot everything with a meter.

What is a steel line regulated return, and what do those deleted other things get you?
I've been running the 7.3's since 1988. I'm hangin on to my 99 450 & 01 350 crew. Nothing special, just working trucks. No big mods other than a straight pipe. Seeing you guy's with 300k encourage me, but I know that's pretty standard for the 7.3.
I really don't need the 01 cc anymore and (reluctantly) been toying with the idea of selling it. Seeing as I ordeded it and have been the only owner/driver, I am very attached to it and they are getting old & scarce, once she's gone.......

Rustyiron, I would have a hard home parting with a truck I ordered and had from new.

Mostly because I like the looks of steel lines but also for streamlined flow and less chance of leaks. Intake air heater is a useless airflow interrupter for me and something that could cause a problem. Fuel bowl/heater I never really liked it's location and likes to leak. I will have better filtration under the truck with the spin ons. The EBPV is doing the classic rod oil leak so it's flying to the dumpster along with it's EBPV exhaust choking butterfly. My non EBPV turbo pedestal should be here soon. I'm mostly cleaning up engine bay, improve reliability, de-fording an international engine lol.

Improving reliability? He he, I know what you are doing and it make sence. It just sounds funny when GM is only expecting 200k out of the D-max and these engines arn't even halfway to the end of their life at 200k! I have a 01 F-250 with exhaust, 4 pos chip, BTS trans and a few other mods and could not be happier with the truck and I have had it since new. Jody tipton, DP tuner has been getting good hp from these PM rodded trucks and keeping them alive by controlling cylinder pressure. I will do a engine swap with a cummins before I swap the PMR's out in my truck. Brian from BTS has a twin pump set up that makes a world of difference in power in these engines. On of my customers runs his 7.3's to 500k and these trucks have alot of runtime on them powering hydraulics on locations so nobody knows the actual runtime. They last. CJ

DMax's last a lot longer than 200k.

Even the 5.9 has a rec'd overhaul interval of around 300k.

The 7.3 is certainly the most reliable diesel that Ford has ever installed in it's light duty trucks.

I have had a few of them. I bought a 2003 F350 4x4 reg cab srw and had it for about 18 months before trading it for a 4 Dr 350 4x4 6.0. Never had any issues with either one of those trucks. Also had a 96 7.3 4x4 drw dump that was always in need of something. Injectors, fuel rail, oil pan oil pan oil pan , cam sensor, tranny, torque converter, speed sensor, hi pressure oil pump... It never ended until I sold it. Yep, they got good power and tow well, but they are not with out their problems

i gotta think that 96 was a lemon.. or was abused. no reason to loose that many oil pans unless they are hitting things..

Those are two slick trucks. Have you done much to them?

normail maint mostly. did put an upgrade engine fan when I repalced the stock ford one. the 450 also has a K&N replacement filter box and element.

Added some tool boxes to both of them. brake controller.. radio upgrades and speakers..e tc.

the 350 has a flip over gn ball, and the 450 has 5th whl rails and a reese hitch plus a reese 'the goose' converter to pull a gn trailer. has air bag suspension and an extra 70g fuel tank with a transfer tech controller. in my 04 f250 with 6.0 i can drive long enough to need fuel before i need a bladder break. .. onthe 450 i can make a few bladder breaks before needing fuel.. :) getting fuel at that point however hurts the wallet.. :)
