I think I may have found a good deal on a 4WD 5065 with just under 300 hours. Would I need the weights up front if I went with it?

do you currently have any weights? you can get the weight bracket and use yours.

80.7" WB and around 5500#. With loaded rears you are probably at 6500#. That's gonna be a very stable tractor. Without an FEL you will need front weights if you are going to use a heavier cutter that has a three point hitch. You should be OK with a pull type.

Just as an aside. My 4610 SU is around 5500# with loaded rears and has a 77.5" WB in 2 WD. With my 472 Brown tipping the scales at around 1100# the front end on my Ford gets real light. I added 240# of weight and a weight bracket to the front end and it helped immensely. I have room for one more weight and when I can find one it's gonna go on.

Oh good idea, I didn't think they would be compatible. I wonder if the bracket and weights would be compatible to be swapped to the newer one.

Yeah the cutter is 1332lbs, so it's pretty heavy. What do you mean by loaded rears?

Wheels are wide, can these be flipped? Would there be any advantages of having them wide?

yes they can, i think there are 8 settings for width. wide is more stable. get them to add the weight bracket. and if you can get a pic from the right side you can easily tell if it has the mid valves installed.

loaded rears means adding fluid to the rear wheels for increased weight.

i believe your current weighs should fit the weight bracket for that 5065E

Loaded rears means fluid filled tires to add ballast. A 16.9x24 filled with water and antifreeze to ,75% of the the tire will add approximately 500# per tire in weight to the tractor.

I'm wide also at the rear. I added an ROPS and that required me to switch the tires. On my Ford the rear wheels are offset 4 and 10. Switching added 12" to the rear width. I am approximately 84" wide now. Very stable.

Loading the rear tires are only good for traction and a bit of stability, but I think adding more weight to the rear wheels wouldn't be as effective as weight in the front when the load is on the rear.

Correct me if I'm wrong but loading the fronts or more front ballast would be a more effective ballast in my mind.
