62D Wheel Fix

   / 62D Wheel Fix #11
Even though they are a different shape I'll keep them for spares and/or use them on some other project some day. I think they are expensive wheels. So I'm curious, even though you have a deck that came with zerks there are no grooves to channel the grease around? The groove might be in the bushing rather than the shaft.

Didn't know they changed the shape of the wheels also. I know when I ordered my tractor, the deck was the holdup in delivery. Everything else was sitting on the dealers lot. He called me and since I was working 800 miles from home at the time, I told him to just wait till the deck arrived before delivering the complete tractor. So I guess I got the most updated deck.

Don't know about the groove in the shaft or bushing. I had it apart once when the shaft was very hard to turn/swivel, and removed some polypropylene twine (this place is loaded with old twine embedded in the ground left over from feeding bales of hay to the former residents) but I didn't think to look for grooves. Will do next time.

Thanks for the tip.

BZ1, I got a chance today to look at that front wheel swivel shaft. The shaft is solid with no grooves. The bushing is a white plastic material. The Zerk is located in the top third of the shaft. Thats why all the grease comes out the top. I was getting ready to cut a grove in the shaft when my better half wanted the mower.

I'll put this modification on my to do list for this winter.

BigD9, for better or worse I put my zerk in the middle of the shaft/bearing. With the goove in place the grease pretty much goes all the way around and comes out the top and bottom all the way around. It works.
