62C MMM Wheel adjustment?

My 2210 has the 62C MMM. The label on the deck says to adjust the front deck wheels about 1/2 off the ground and the back deck wheels touching the ground or a up to 1/2 inch above.
I adjusted my front wheels to about 1/2 and the rears are touching (adjustment made on flat concrete). When I mow, the wheels are basically touching the ground and supporting the deck. Is this correct? Is the deck supposed to float and the wheels are anti-scalp? I don't want to wear the wheels out. Any thoughts or experience would be helpful.

Are your blades correctly adjusted so they are lower in the front than the rear, according to the manual?

Good question. The dealer installed the deck so I was guessing they properly installed it. I have mowed twice and it mows quite well. I will need to get one of those blade height tools and measure the height of the blades.

Bheston,

You want the blades lower to the front so that you only cut the grass once. If they are lower to the back, you'll beat the grass to death. Not sure how this translates to wheel clearance front Vs back. I normally set my cut height/wheel clearance such that I have a 1/2 inch to 3/4. On the lumpy ground it does seem like they are touching all the time, but the tractor is still carrying alot of the weight.

I have a Powerflow attachment I use with my 62"deck and its manual tells you to have that right front wheel in contact with the ground to help support the powerflow weight. So apparently you can run them down all the time.

I had a 54"deck with similar wheels on a 445 for 7 years and never had a problem using the above guidelines. I kept them well greased, about every other mowing, and they never wore out.

The only thing I have found by running the front wheels too low, on a tight turn that is slightly downhill, the wheel will dig into the ground. I basically keep them in the highest position, unless I'm cutting my neighbors lawn, which for some reason will scalp unless I lower them.

This thread got my curiosity up.
I've had my 2210 for 2 previous summers, and do a lot of mowing. The quality of the cut has always been great so I've never messed with any deck adjustments. My dealer (know for years) said over the years simply that the deck needs to hang, and the gauge wheels should always be at least 1/4" above the ground/floor. Upon closer inspection this week, I noticed to have my wheels that 1/4" above, the rear wheels where a hole lower than the front.
Last winter, I picked up one of those handy deck measuring gauges, so under I go to take some measurements.
All I can say is "wow". The first front to back measurements were way off - front was 1 1/2" lower than the front! All this time I was cutting with just the tip of the blades. I made the adjustments with the front carrier and got it to the 1/4" lower spec (front of blade should be 1/4" lower than the rear). Then needed only a slight adjustment side to side. Then I adjusted my wheels using the guide on the deck, and that put them about 1/2" above the floor. Now my mowing height dial matches the blade measurement, and the wheels are all in the same wholes hanging the same distance above the floor. Did a mowing yesterday, and "wow" - actually looks better than before - like a green carpet.
Just thought I would share this - my dealer has always been great including "Bob" in the shop - he really knows his stuff. But....when it comes to setting up a new machine, I think they just "eye-ball" it when it comes to installing the deck. Using the deck gauge made the final adjustments easy, and gives me peace of mind that everything is now adjusted properly.
