I was at the local ACE hardware store yesterday, they had some Forney 6013.
I ran a V-groove test plate this morning.
1/8-inch 6013, 115-amps for the root pass, 110-amps for the remaining.

I cut the coupons a little differently so you guys wouldn't think I was using other test coupons.

The face coupon has a very small flaw, less that 1/64th of an inch.

Looks great as usual. 6013 has been called a sheet metal rod. But I have used it to reweld ball ends on to 3 point hitches, without so much as a single small problem when put under full load.

My Dad a few years ago installed a gooseneck ball in his truck. It needed some welding. Curiously it stated that the customer must use 6011 IF warranty was to be in force. Maybe we need some test from 6011 too.lol.

Love the bender. Got a wide view?

Mark I can't ever remember running any 6013 on the job. Year or so ago I bought some Lincoln 6013 at Lowes, didn't like it at all. See? Now this Forney runs 1000 times better than the Lincoln I got!
I just through that bender together, nice to have an ample scrap bin, all I had to buy was four 5/8-inch flat washers.

Already did a test with 6011.

Ever try any U.S. Forge rods as far as their regular AWS coded series? I've been a long time fan of theirs.

Now I remember...I forgot that was already done.

Nice, simple setup on the press. Is that cylinder rod you are using for the press ram?

No, never tried any U.S. Forge rods, far as I can remember. Too many rods, too many years!

I bought that small press for a key way broach I have. The bigger press in back you just don't have any feeling with it when running the broach. I just used a piece of 1-inch cold rolled, with 1 1/2-inch cold rolled welded to it for the upper die. Made a new cross arm, because this one is trapped in it. Used some scrap C-channel, and the two 1 1/2-inch dies out of my Harbor Freights compact bender for the bottom dies / rollers.

Well I think you sorta have ran some U.S. Forge rods - those infamous Messer 80T AC rods that you so kindly evaluated for me. I am 99.9 % sure that Messer and U.S. Forge are one and the same company - their factory addresses are even the same in Wisconsin. Now whether they use identical rod formulations between brands - unknown.

Thanks again as always for sharing and adding value to this site as usual. As for 6013 being a sheet rod only. I too have used 6013 wiith success. I think the confusion lies in the definition of sheet metal: To a backyard hobbyist like me sheet metal is thin stuff like car fenders or anything under 1/8" or so thick. In the metal industry though even thicker metal like 1/4" or 3/8" is often called sheet metal stock adding to the confusion factor.

I too have had good luck with some Forney rods, but I expect that to get more hit and miss in the future. As of couple years ago, Forney closed their own factory's down where they still personally made some of their own stuff. While the Forney brandname does still exist, they simply now buy from other people and slap their sticker on it. I see on their website that they are pretty much selling Hobart welders now. As for their welding rods, there have been reports on Welding Web where longtime Forney users of a certain number rod have been disaapointed in the new Forney rod that seems to be a vendor supplied replacement.

I would be interested in some up close photos of that press jig for bending the coupons. Looks like something I could fab up rather cheaply for my 30 ton shop press. Have been searching the web for a design to use that utilizes scrap pile materials in lieu of buying metal.
