The tires on the truck are garbage. P rated. I may upgrade them as I get a little sway even when pumped to the max of 51 pounds. Just not enough sidewall. I only haul one day a week for the most part and usually less than 20 miles each way. If I grew to hauling 5 days a week I would have a new truck and trailer.

Using two trailers will solve the pickup problem and the trailer problem. Load the implements on one and tractor on the other then make two trips. When business gets good enough then buy a new heavier pickup, then a heavier trailer.

Just was online and looking at redneck trailer and others. It appears the only diff between a 5200 and a 6000 is bearings as far as the axle is concerned. The springs I have not looked at yet. Buy some bearings and have a 12k trailer? Trailer is built very heavy so not an issue there.

My old 10k deck over trailer couldn't be overloaded. The wheels started rubbing the deck. You probably could have cut the fenders out to make up for it. And with the truck you've got you'll have worse problems. I at least could put a lot more than 10 percent on the tongue weight. I'd want to weigh the setup an real scales and not go by the spec sheet. I've never overloaded my tandem 12k axel trailer to see how it handles it.

The tractor and trailer will make a trip to the scales most certainly. I will then weight it a few diff ways so I can see the tongue weight.

Despite any modifications you make, the only one who can change the trailer or truck weight rating is the manufacturer. You may be able to get away with what you suggest; yet if the DOT checks you or even worse, some kid pulls out in front of you on a bicycle; you are going to be on the hook.

Yep. And the problem is going to be the truck.

Also, in my opinion, number of trips and/or distance has nothing to do with it. A dangerous load is dangerous the moment it starts to move.

The last time I looked, the truck plates have to be rated for the weight of the truck, passengers, cargo, trailer, and trailer load.

If you pull a 14,000 pound trailer with a 6,000 pound truck,, the truck plates have to be for 20,000 pounds,,,
The trailer plates are meaningless, typically they are not weight rated.

If I buy a Freightliner tractor for pleasure use, not hauling,, and it weighs 8,000, I do not need more than a 10,000 pound plate,,

If you hook a 40,000 pound trailer to a car,, the car better have plates for the gross weight, like 50,000 pounds.

The tow or haul rating of the car/pickup is different than the plates.

Each state is different or doesn’t have to be the same
