Hello,
My 2012 5093E has never had hot air since new. It is hot if it is warm outside but only warm (not warm enough to defrost windows) when it is very cold. It has one contol knob for hot air and one for cold. I noticed yesterday that the one for cold had no effect on temperature at all so I am thinking the cable is off or the blend door is broken in the heater box. I checked the cable on the control knob and it is working there.

Anyone know the easiest way to get at the heater box? Can I remove a roof panel or do I need to drop the headliner? Already been the the dealer for this when I first bought the tractor so I would like to confirm that there is a problem before taking it to them as I can only go one day without it at a time. Thanks

Do both heater hoses feel hot? There appears to be no manual coolant valves. If I'm viewing parts catalog correctly one needs to remove roof to access the heater coil.

One hose is much warmer then the other indicating that the coolant is circulating through the core. I don't think there is a problem with the hot side of the system, but it seems like the cold side is stuck part way allowing some cold air to bypass the heater core. There is a panel on the roof that looks removable directly over the heater unit. If it ever gets above -20 I may see if I can get it off. I only have warranty until the end of the month so I may need to freeze my fingers!

Can you follow the lines and see if there are any sharp bends or kinks in the hoses that would restrict the flow especially the return line.

stay warm, we are expecting only -16 with -40 to -55 wind chills for Sunday and Monday

Make sure that the cold know is all the way on low, and the hot know is all the way to hot and that the Snowflake/defrost button is switch on. If you are not working the tractor much in the cold, a cold weather front may help? Let us know if you find anything else? My 83E will sweat me right out of the cab!

Good to know that yours gets hot, I will try and find the problem tomorrow.

I wasn't trying to rub salt in the wound per say. Let us know what you discover, we enjoy solving problems for others on the forum!

Sorry, that may have come out wrong, lol. What I meant was its nice to hear that the heater on these tractors isn't supposed to suck. Now I know that it isn't normal so I will start looking for a problem.

I have the roof panel off now and everything seems fine. Hot control cable controls a water valve to core and cold control cable goes to an electrical switch of some sort. No blend doors like a car. Only thing I can think of is either air in the core or when its really cold I loose all the heat through the hoses before it makes it to the core. I don't see an easy way to bleed the core.

Checked all hoses, no kinks, bled air from system(didn't get any). The hose coming out of the water pump doesn't seem to have a big temperature difference between the engine and the core. I have good heat when temps are above 0, but almost no heat at -25. I think the engine just isn't getting warm enough to provide much heat. Even when snowblowing for an hour and a half the temp gauge is only a quarter of the way up.

Wow, I maybe should say I have never even run my tractor at below 10 degrees since new. Maybe a winter front would help with your issue? -25 is darn cold and there is alot of glass in those cabs to lose heat through!

Ya, after having a good look I would say the coolant just isn't getting warm enough to provide adequet heat. I asked the dealer but they don't offer a winter grille cover, I will probably make one.

My tractor wasn't getting up to temperature either, it would get to 60*C (dealer said it wasn't even at the temperature to open up the thermostat, 80*C.) I made a cover out if cardboard that covers 3/4 of my radiator and now my cab gets extra toasty and the engine runs at a steady 86*C

Thanks Corey, I will do that. I was going to last year but I thought there must be something wrong to have so little heat. Its been a pretty cold start to the winter here, from the sounds of it it has been even worse in the west, I heard almost -50 without the windchill in norther Sask.

No problem Matt, it's been really cold here too -45 I was shocked the tractor even started that day. Let us know how it worked.
