580B engine s/n?

Just acquired a 580B TLB. Chassis s/n is 8749779. The engine s/n plate is missing. Does anybody know how to determine the engine s/n or if the engine is the old or newer series 188D?
Can I tell by measuring the cylinder sleeve flanges? The head is off now so that would be pretty easy.
Got water in the oil so will be tearing it apart this winter and it would be nice to know which engine I have.
