Both my outside rear view mirrors are split. Big one is looking down the side of the car, smaller one is looking at the 'blind' spot. Real simple and real effective (if you bother to look in the morros that is).
Don’t have split mirrors I have one of the small blind spot mirrors attached to the top left of the outside mirrors and the blind spot indicator on the car and truck.

^This.

When I lived in Pennsylvania, driving slower wasn't a problem. There was a town every few miles where I could buy what I needed. Out here in Nevada, going to "town" means Reno, 175 miles away...and other than fuel there is NOTHING you'll be able to buy in between. "Town" heading east is Salt Lake City - 360 miles. "Town" heading north is Boise, Idaho 250 miles. And "Town" heading south is Las Vegas - 500 miles.

So I ain't gonna drive 65 when I can drive 85. Especially when the roads are long and straight and you can see 15 miles ahead. Don't need extra hours sitting in my rig!
Now that is what I call living plumb out there, and no where near any thing.

A old retiree told me he loved being able to sit on his back porch in his shorts, drinking coffee and watching the hummingbirds feeding early in the morning. Sounds like you could set outside, nude and no one would see you.

Like I said earlier, it's your dime, not mine. One thing I know for certain and that is you get terrible fuel mileage.

Depends on what you mean by "terrible". My F150 is what I drive the most. Bought new, it has 71,000 miles on it now and the overall fuel mileage, hand calculated, is 20.5 mpg. That includes a lot of miles with a trailer hooked to it - and a lot of miles at 80+ mph.

My 7.3 diesel one ton does better than that actually. 21 hand calculated. Just curious, do you pull your trailer at 80 as well?

Far as I'm concerned the less gadgets I have the less failure I have.
The older I get the more I think likewise. I sometimes catch myself thinking the way my grandfather did it was not so bad after all.

No. 65-70 max when towing.

That's on the highway. But not too many paved roads around here so on dirt I usually stay below 50 mph.

I will never buy a new car again. Im looking for a truck right now to rebuild /refurb for my wife. A little straight 6 4x4 Ford is what would be optimum. I may be mentally ill but I see myself as winning when I don't play the game. Dont eat red meat? Ok. Hows this, I'll raise my own red meat. Force insane emissions on me? Ok I'll drive pre emission diesels and keep them forever. Raise my energy rates? Ok I'll stack enough fire wood that I can lay around in my underwear when its 4 below. I find it weird that people are willing to help put a boot on their own face.

I made that drive from Reno to Vegas. Early July, 1987. Not many places to stop. At times, the desert is beautiful. It wasn't then.
