My 520loader on my JD5400 has always dumped at the same speed. I've finally come to the conclusion it is way to slow. Never having operated another JD loader I don't know if this is normal or a change could be made. I looked at the parts manual and it doesn't show any restrictors. The tractor manual says the SCV has a regenerative function to speed dump action but it must not be working or maybe I really don't have that option. Basically it curls faster than it dumps.

The regen function of the valve only helps when the bucket is loaded. IF you notice that the bucket is slower when empty, do not move the joystick so far to the right. The regen is active when the joystick is at the farthest travel, not when its only 1/2 way or so...
My valve even has a lockout you can engage to block the regen function (have to use this with a snowplow or chute rotation on a blower)

I'm a little confused by what you wrote. You stated the regen function is only active when joystick is at its furthest travel (that BTW is how I use it everytime) yet you said (IF you notice that the bucket is slower when empty, do not move the joystick so far to the right).Seems I would want to move it far to the right whenever I want to dump fast.
Another note is it doesn't matter how heavy the bucket is it moves at the same speed. I've notice skid steers dump real fast. Now the catch here is most of the time I have either a grapple or forks on this loader and there I want it to move slow and steady with increased sensitivety. Its when I'm just moving something I want to get rid of fast that I want quick dump action. Yes I want my cake and eat it too.:)

Sorry to confuse you...

The regen function actually pressurizes both sides of the curl cylinders, that is why when the bucket is empty it actually dumps slower, or in the case of a snowplow or chute rotation just stalls...Read THIS to maybe help understand the regenerative function of the valve.

Tomorrow I'm going to try dumping with partial throw on the lever to see. Maybe I'm so used to pushing all the way over every time I dump I have failed to realize it might be faster by half throw of the lever. I think I see the value in a single curl cylinder now like you see on many backhoes.
