On my Kubota I had the wife hold a shop vac at the fill port while I changed hydro filter and didn't lose a drop. The suction creates a vacuum they prevents the fluid escaping.

Very interesting! I am a little skeptical, but might give it a try!

It works great. Do a search on the Kubota owning/operating and you will get lots of hits on people that have done it.

On my Kubota I had the wife hold a shop vac at the fill port while I changed hydro filter and didn't lose a drop. The suction creates a vacuum they prevents the fluid escaping.

I did this and it worked great. I loosened the filter with the wrench enough I could twist it off by hand. I had the new filter ready to go. I showed the wife prior what I wanted and where to hold the hose. I had her turn on the shop vac and when I started backing off the filter I could hear the suction. I spun the new filter on. I did have a clean pan underneath just in case and cardboard down just in case. The only fluid I lost was when I accidently tipped the old filter over.

The real issue I had was getting the transmission dip stick out. Holy crap that thing was stuck. It would turn but would not pull out. The little handle on top isn't enough to get a good hold on. I ended up prying it out. I bought a rubber/brass boat plug and painted the top black. I'll save the dip stick for checking levels when changing. I can look in the hole and visibly see the fluid.

If you have not had this dip stick out for a while I would recommend pulling it out and putting some never seize or light grease on the O rings.

Yep, I did it to after reading about it on here. Works like a charm.

So this doesn't suck the hydro oil up into the vaccuum?

I'm glad I came across this thread as I just hit 50hrs on my G3038. Thanks for the info.

I have used this many times changing defective fire shutoff valves on home 275 gallon oil tanks. It's worked ever time.
