5045

So, your dealer is offering to drop a $100 below the JD website MSRP? Let's see... say $500 to load the rear tires - that makes it around $600 below the MSRP - that's right at 2.6% below MSRP!

If this was cards -- I'd tell that dealer - go fish...

Yeah, didn't sound like a good deal to me either. I suspect the dealer isn't giving him the best price due to his trade in. When we got the 5045e the dealer didn't discount it as much as others, but he did give an excellent trade on the 4400. It was equipped with loader, MMM, power-flow grass catcher, and JD 516 bush hog, 1800hrs, in fair condition, gave us $18,000 trade in for it. :confused2:

yeah dealers are different. mine won't take trade-in on used impliments(ie your JD 516 bush hog). when I traded in my previous tractor I had to sell the disk and bush hog myself.

For what ever reason he really likes getting in used equipment. My father was talking to him about trading up our 446 round baler for a new 458 Silage Special and he offered $10K for our old baler, sight unseen.

Sorry it took me so long to get back, the internet in this area has been down for a few days .

Thanks to everyone for responding !

AKfish , that was my thoughts , I didnt know how much it was to load the tires , was thinking 500 , got a price on the phone from another dealer the next day , everything the same 1000.00 less , so I called them back and ask if that was their price with a trade, he said yep , but who knows he might offer me 1000.00 less for mine.

Verticaltrx , my 4300 is a gear tranny , do you think the 55 or 65 hp would not be as sluggish ?

Im thinking now I will keep mine for a while , maybe try to sell it then go with no trade in , again Thanks to everyone !

We'd probably go with the 5055e if doing it over again, but it all depends on your usage. For loader work, grading, most bush hogging 45hp is plenty, but anything that requires going fast it just doesn't have enough power to keep up a decent speed on the hills (tedding and raking hay, etc.) IDK about the throttle response, but I would guess it would be a little better on the higher HP models.

I have also been considering getting a 5045e, I went to the dealer today, and looked at one.. Do you think it will can handle heavy red oaks, pulling them? Was it the low end torque that seemed to lack? It is the low end torque I am looking for, do you think the 5055e.or 5065e would be needed. I thought 22,000 was a bit high for the 5045e, but I don't desire to invest that much money in a tractor, and find out it is lacking in a place I need. 30 in diameter oak logs, and some even larger, up to 20ft, of course I can cut them up smaller in length, but your insight is appreciated, thanks.... I had looked at the 2600 series from Massey Ferguson, anyone know if the massey ferguson's have the low end. I like the JD's though..

Really when you are pulling something like that you aren't using low end torque anyways. You set your throttle, pick a low gear and go. With that said I pulled our fully loaded C60 dump truck up a steep muddy grade with the 5045e and it really surprised me. The truck had a full load of wood chips and it got too muddy to make it back up. I was by myself so I chained up the tractor to the front of the truck, threw the truck in neutral and proceeded to pull it up the hill. Truck probably weighed about 25,000lbs and it pulled it up. It wasn't easy, (diff lock, 1st gear, full throttle, tires digging) but I made it. So power isn't really an issue for that type of work. The only thing the larger hp tractors could do would be pull something faster, say 3rd or 4th gear instead of 1st or 2nd.

The 2600 HD series definitely has grunt and longevity. The non HD 2600 series with the Simpson Perkins clone, not so much.

I have a 5055E. A concrete crew was out pouring a slab for me and one of the guys wasn't to bright. Got his pickup stuck in the mud. Couldn't get around to the front so I pulled him sideways thru the mud until I had enough room to get around to the front.

The 553 loader valve has been replaced but still will not return to center when released.

I had been looking at the 2wd model since it is around $15,000.00, I liked the e model though, it has a different tran, a little higher lift capacity on 3pt, and 4wd, so do you think the 4wd makes a great deal of difference, or can you compare from experince. 21,000.00-23,000.00 is quite a bit, not beyond my budget, but somewhat high. It depends on whether it is really needed is my question. The imput I have observed is about equal, between a 2wd, vs 4wd. I know the difference of a 4wd truck, and ATV, but given the tractor has smaller front tires, and the design of a tractor, I don't know from experience. This will be my first tractor, I plan on putting it to many uses, especially lugging around large red oak logs,etc.. I am not interested in a loader. I can manage without a loader, although they make jobs easier.
