Thinking of buying a John Deere 4052 R with a cab. I’ve always had open station tractors but I’m getting tired of fighting the cold when moving snow in the winter and fighting the heat of summer when mowing. Anyone have any insight? Pros and cons?
Storage is no problem as I have three 10 foot doors in my barn.

I had the same thoughts before I bought my 3039R.
I say, just buy it and buy it now.
Two years from now you will have forgotten what the price was.
The only con I can think of, is it isn't a 4066R

There’s both a 4052 R and a 4066 R
I’m going from a 42 hp which does pretty much everything I want it to.
The 4066 seemed like more than I would ever need. They’re identical other than the extra hp with the 66. I appreciate your reply!

Do you have any steep banks you mow ?
If so a cab is really top heavy & can get you in trouble
This is my problem plus a cab won’t fit under my commercial poultry house equipment inside 500’ long.
Everyone’s application is different.
You can always cut all of your low hanging tree limbs to accommodate a cab tractor.

Another issue is a cab adds more weight & AC robs HP & really noticeable on Hills.

So as the other poster mentioned : I’d definitely step UP to the 4066M (R isn’t necessary : but slightly used low hour) even IF you think you don’t need it.
Trust me I’ve made numerous tractor upgrades in 30yrs from 48 66 85 93 101 & 115HP LOL

Fluid Filled tires which all 4 are mandatory for my applications: adds so much traction, stability on steep banks & rides way better on rough ground But Robs power big time pulling hills & mowing thick grass.

It’s just like building a shop : ALWAYS go Bigger than you need or can afford because you’ll really appreciate it down the road & saving $$ in the long run.

I have always disagreed with the "but bigger than you need" especially with these new emissions engines. Buy what you need for your jobs, use the money you save to pay for an implement and the smaller power engine will be better on the emissions system as it will be working harder, thus keeping in-cylinder combustion temps higher.

I bought my first cab tractor three years ago. Before that I did everything with open station tractors. What surprised me the most was how much more I could get done just by being comfortable.

In winter, with the heater going, I'm out there for hours.

In summer, I used to mow my land in areas that I forced myself to stay out there until I finished that area. I only had 37hp and I was using a 6 foot cutter, so it was slow going.

My cab tractor is 70 hp and I'm using a 12 foot batwing, but what's amazing is when it's too hot to do anything else, and I've been outside all morning working until it was too hot, when I get in the cab and cool off in the AC, I feel great!!

When I'm done mowing for the day, I've done three or four areas that would have been tough to get done in one day. In the last three years, I've been able to mow my place three times a year. I was lucky to mow all of it once a year before. My weeds are going away, and my pasture grass is taking over. It's been a night and day improvement!!!

Today its really nice out with temps in the high 60's, so I'm finishing off a fence for my dogs. Tomorrow is supposed to be cold with temps in the low 40's. I'm going to get in my cab tractor and clean up all the old hay around the hay ring. Then I'll move some dirt from a pile that's been there awhile and fill in some ditches caused by the horses walking to my barn.

I have three other tractors that all have their uses, but for getting things done that take a lot of time, and the weather is miserable, the cab means that I'll be out there doing it instead of waiting for better weather.
