It should be noted that UDT is fine for gear drive tractors, but hydrostatics really should use Super UDT. They are very different.

I have a L3240HST
I have a inkling that my dealer used UDT for intial fill of the trans & hydro...
they were kind of reccomending that I stick with UDT for my fills.
The dealer mentioned to me when I was going over the tractor to not vary between UDT & SUDT because the seals are affected differently by each type of fluid, is there any truth to this?? I'll probably try SUDT for my 50 hr service, hope I can find it locally.

Messick Farm Dealer, Have a question.

This thing has a Hydro whine in it with mowing and is really noticable when using the loader. It is just Hydro Fluid moving.

Do these tractors come without any hydro in them and the dealer adds whatever he normally uses during set-up out of the crate?

They come filled from the factory with SUDT. Changing to fresh oil will change things, even if its SUDT to SUDT.

I have a friend right down the road who has an L2800. I have a GL3240. His book says to change ALL fluids at 50 hours. My book says to only change the ENGINE OIL, then the hydraulic filter only & to clean & check the air filters. I don't know what the difference is but mine also has bigger filters & a double air filter that his does not have. Go figure. I'm going by the book.

oldgeezer....my L3940 says the same thing......engine oil/filter and 2 hydro filters at 50 hours. I'm with you and going by what my book says ;)

I had an older L2800 and the 50 Hr. called for the hydraulic fluid and filters to be replaced, but the brand new L3400 calls for only the filters (HST and Hydraulic) not the fluid to be replaced at the 50 hr. service. This sounds more like what the Grand L's call for.

Don't know why the change...

I have never really known why the 50 hr UDT fluid could not be strained and reused. Of course I would never do this but it never made sense to me since its primary purpose seems to be removing metal shavings from breakin. Since the fluid itself lasts much longer than 50 hrs, it seems odd that it cant be strained with a very fine filter and reused saving a good bit of money.

It is strained. That's what the filters do....strain out the metal shavings and other debris. That's why the filters are changed so early in the life cycle of the UDT. The newer machines (Grand L40's) only call for filter change and not fluid (hydro fluid). The hydro fluid stays in the tractor until 200-250 hours.

Sure wish I understood what the story is. . . I've got an L2800 I bought this spring (though don't know when it was made, and have been unable to find out). If I could get away with just changing the filters, it'd save some bucks. I'm at 40 hours now. Anybody got an L2800 with a manual that calls for just a filter change at 50?

I think the L2800 is at 50. Its the newer design machines that have stretched out intervals. I don't really think anything is different, they are just starting to push the technology some.

On my L3240 the 50 hour change called for ALL fluids to be changed. I share the opinion of many here that the first 50 hour change IS the most important one during the life of the unit. Sure, there are filters that will remove MOST of the assembly residue and metal particulates but the fluids will probably be the most contaminated than at any time during the life of the unit. If Kubota changed the manual to change ALL fluids in the newer version, they probably did it for a reason that they become aware of in the units already in the field or they just want the unit to last.

I really didnt want to just throw away money on fluids but I intend on keeping this unit for many years to come. I believe it is the case of pay me now, or potentially pay me more later.

Interesting.

My 2 month old L5740 manual clearly states (in words and chart form) that the transmission fluid need not be changed until 400 hours and every 400 hours after that, with filter changes at the first 50, then at every 400 hours with the fluid change. BUT, the online service time table at Kubota.com says to change the transmission fluid at 50 hours and then every 300 hours.

I think I'll contact them and get a written response from them on which is "correct" for warranty purposes.

Okay, reporting my feedback.

I got an call from Kubota technical support this morning. The answer on the 50 hour transmission fluid change for my 5740 is that I don't have to but that they highly recommend a change at 50 hours then go to 400 hours, they recommend UDT (over SUDT) since it is warm here and SUDT is so expensive, and the rep said for my tractor moly grease is a waste of money, just use a good grease and use it often.

Well...there you go :)
Thanks for the update. I have the 3940 and got the same response from my salesman and shop technician about the grease and UDT.

I own a L3240HST, only have 10 hours on the engine, but getting some supplies ready for the 50 hour service. My dealer told me to stick with UDT, versus SUDT for the hydraulics/transmission, but from what I'm reading SUDT is better especially in cold conditions (I'm in NewHampsha)

I guess it's not good to switch between UDT/SUDT something to do with the
seals?

Anyone have further information on this?

Thanks,
Clint

Everything I have read indicates that Kubota UDT and SUDT are compatible. I am using SUDT in my L3130HST and feel that the tractor operates more smoothly and the HST is quieter. In your case I would definitely go with SUDT for cold weather operations.

I just did the 50 hour service of the engine oil change on my new BX1500 a few minutes ago.

I change the motor oil and the oil filter evrey 100 hours and the Tranny fluid and filter every 300 hours.

I use
Kubota filters
Oil and SUDT
In all 3 BXs.

I have a L3940 also and went ahead and changed the hydro oil at 50 hours and was surprised at the metal shavings that were attached to magnet in the filter.

Rick
I found a few shavings on the screen in my BX1500 when I did the 50 hour service.
