Well, here's another take on the 50 hour question. I have a new L2800 with about 35 hours on it (all mowing). Called the dealer to find out how much the 50 hour service would cost if I did it, vs. if he did it. His advice was, let him do it (to the tune of 750 bucks, with pickup and delivery!), but do it at about 75-80 hours and combine it with the 100 hour maintenance.

Any thoughts about this?

Bill
Did mine myself for $145.00.:D

Pretty much just fluid changes and a really obvious clutch linkage adjustment, isn't it? Maybe even I can manage it.

$750 !! Did that guy have a gun in your face also. Thats highway robbery!

Seemed purty pricey to me; I guess it does include about $160 pick-up and delivery, and it is the 50 and 100 hour service combined (I don't have access to my manual right now and I can't remember what the 100 hr amounts to).

Bill - your dealer is not beeing particularly honest with the 50-100 hr combo.

100hr basically calls for a change in the oil and filter - both are done at 50 hr. I changed the fuel filter at 100 hr as well but don't believe it was called for it.

$750 is WAAAAY too steep - even with the pick up.

Regular service on this tractor is pretty straightforward. I was hesitent to do it myself since I consider myself far from handy - had never turned a wrench on anything that moved before.

I was able to do it with NO problem at all. Search a few threads out here on the L2800/L3400 service. There are lots of detailed threads on the 50 hr service. The folks here are very helpful too.

I highly recommend doing the service yourself. Get it done right at 50 hrs and then get the 100 hr done at 100 hrs. You will get to know your tractor better and will make sure that everything is done right.

Fill out in your profile where you are located. If you were within driving distance from me, I'd be happy to drive over and help you do it.

I should point out that SUDT or 'Premium UDT' (Canada) is a lot more expensive than what TexasDodge paid. All in all I think my service cost no more than about $250 - $300.

This is the hydraulic fluid I got from TSC. It said on the back Kubota UDT.

Then 6 qts of diesel motor oil, along with 5 qts of 80W oil for the front axle.

I did get my oil filter and hydraulic filter at the Kubota dealership - $45.00 for both of them.

My dealer is located about 60+ miles from me.

My 50 hour service included pickup and delivery. $460 total for everything.

This was done about 3 months ago.

Pretty fair price I thought considering the distance traveled.

A little confused here. I have a new B2620. No mention of changing all the Hydo Fluids at 50 hrs like I did with the BX2200 at 50 hrs.

Just says change Engine Oil and Filter and both the Hydro and tranny filters.

Tranny Fluids and front axle do not come until 400 hrs.

No mention that I can see about the magic magnet plug as was on the BX that collected all the shavings.

Bafffles me.. I was planning the 50 hr change even when I bought it.

Very kind offer; I'm in Michigan, pretty far from where you are, or I'd be happy to take you up on it. I think I'll try to do this myself, and I must say, I'm pretty disappointed in my dealer, who it looks like is trying to rip me off.

My 2007 Grand L3940 did not require the hydraulic fluid change at 50 hours either. And I did not see any shavings on the filter magnet. Not sure if this is a change in service due to a change in parts or engineering, but I'm just going to stick with what my dealer and the service schedule say to do. Heck, it's saving me money so I can afford to put more of that $4.79 diesel in her

It should be noted that UDT is fine for gear drive tractors, but hydrostatics really should use Super UDT. They are very different.

Not to argue your opinion....but that is quite contrary to what my dealer says about them.
I was told regular UDT is fine in any HST tractor. Regular UDT is what is in my Grand L3940 and is what my dealer, and service manual, recommend. The Super UDT, from what I am told, is only a better choice for the colder northern climates. I'm in Virginia and we really don't have those long cold spells.
If you say they are so different, then what are the differences? And why would you not use regular UDT in an HST tractor?

This has been covered about 100 times here, UDT is a pretty stanard hydraulic fluid, SUDT is a multi-weight with large percentages of synthetic additives. In some machines you will hear more whine from the transmission and loader valves with UDT. In the RTV900 there are HUGE differences and it does not drive nearly as well. Its not somthing you will not pickup on with every machine in every circumstance. My opinion has always been that its worth spending the extra $35 between UDT and SUDT since its in there for 300+hrs at a time.

Sorry to bring up an old topic, I'm still new here.
My L3940 is a bit noisy at times. Maybe I'll try the SUDT when it's time to change it out.
Thanks for the explanation.:)

I figured he was a dealer from his sig and avatar. His comment just did not jive with what my dealer has said and/or recommended. I did not mean to question his comment or imply that he was wrong. I'm still learning so I was just interested in his reasoning.
There are LOTS of opinions for every topic here and the more I can hear the better I can decide what's right for me.

Thats the same reason I'm here too. It helps us understand what people run into and what questions they end up having. Helps us be a better dealer and closes the disconnect between what we know from the store and what customers experience.

Messick Farm Dealer, Have a question.

I put SUDT in my BX2200 when I did my 50 hr. Now my new B2620 only has a few hours on it but I look forward to the Mtce to keep it top notch.

This thing has a Hydro whine in it with mowing and is really noticable when using the loader. It is just Hydro Fluid moving.

Do these tractors come without any hydro in them and the dealer adds whatever he normally uses during set-up out of the crate?

Just wondering if changing to SUDT at the MTCE time will change the operation a bit..

Tks, Tom
