Lately I've noticed a clanking sound coming from inside the boom of my 48 backhoe. I'm almost certain the noise was not always there. We just hit the 100 hour mark and I grease the hoe regularly. I've not been rough on the hoe, as evidenced by the fact that all of the bucket teeth are intact! There also seems to be more play in the swing than there used to be. Any comments would be appreciated.

Normal procedure would be to find the motion that makes the noise and keep repeating until you see or localize the problem, preferrably from outside the backhoe swing range for safety. Look for cracks, bends, and missing parts. Removal of debris may be required. SteveV /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I had a clanking sound when operatoring my backhoe and it turned out to a bent pin, it was rotating depending on the pressure source.

Bent pin sounds like a possibility. The sound might be echoeing through the boom. I'll investigate after thge rain subsides tomorrow.
