I own a 05 4310 with a temp. gauge problem. After about five minuites the temp. gauge goes to full hot. I have measured the temp. with an infra red gauge and it is normal. I changed the sending unit but the problem still exists. Any suggestions?

Usually when the gauge goes to the max reading it is a ground issue. Try tracing the wire back to the gauge to see if the wire is exposed and grounding out.

The gauge goes back to cold as soon as the temp. sender is unpluged. This tells me that the wiring is ok. Im thinking it is a gauge problem.

Your thinking is bass ackwards. If the above is the case, the sender is bad. The guage is reading what the sender tells it. If you take a ohm reading the sender likely has a short when warm.

I agree with this too.

after spending 75.00 on a new j.d. sending unit last month the problem still exists. I'm a thirty one year bmw, mercedes mechanic and the sending unit was my first choice.

The new sending unit may be bad too. Just because it is new doesn't mean much.

It is very rare the sending units go bad, let alone two in a row. I am still thinking that a wire is grounding out somewhere.

with the temp sending unit unpluged the temp gauge goes to cold. my thought is a second bad sending unit or temp gauge. sadly the only way to get a new gauge is with the entire 500.00 instrument cluster. before i do that i will ohm out the sending unit from cold to hot. if it is the gauge ill just add a aftermarket gauge.

I would agree with this, I would be reluctant to reward Deere for their poor design. Gone are the days when reasonable repairs and their costs can be made.
